Security at the Entrance

Please someone tell me what the point of these Security Guards are for at the entrance to the parks???:shrug::confused:

Its not just Disney but Universal Studios and Sea World that these guys operate at

What are they looking for, or is it really just a new way of making people queue up on the way in

I really cannot see what purpose they serve,
if they are looking for weapons, they can be carried in pockets,
they can't be looking for food because they have seen my water bottles several times this week as well as a breakfast bar and said nothing

so whats the point?

What if you saw someone with a weapon and was about to do something really bad.( Not being mean here ) That's one reason and another being in the time frame we are in now with the terrorist. Disney and other theme parks are just being very carefull on what goes on in there parks. It's nothing against the guest at all. Yes we know it does take time to get through the gates but i rather them check before something goes wrong. Plus the way drugs is going around is crazy to, but that's a different subject with it's own.

Obviously anyone can get a bomb into the park if they really wanted to. You can get a bomb into anywhere if you try hard enough. In basic reality you cant be efficient and check every one down to a body scan. Even sporting events dont check thoroughly anymore. As some have pointed out, the front gate isnt the only security disney has.

As for myself, I have been stopped numerous times walking through the entrance, asking to lift my shirt because it was baggy and something could be hidden. Actually one time my cell phone was sticking out under my shirt and a security person asked "Is that a weapon?" I replied "No sir, I'm just happy to see you". So I'd say they do keep an eye open.

The truth is, it is all for show. NOTHING can make anyone completely safe. Almost every security measure that has been implemented since 9-11 would do nothing to stop someone who wanted to attack. The hijackers of 9-11, lest everyone forget, didn't actually have anything on the planes they weren't allowed to have. They picked early-morning flights because that's when everyone would be at their most off-guard. They actually had been studying the security procedures at Boston's airport for months, so they knew how to work the system. They succeeded by using fear and fear alone.

Disney's security measures are laughable, because it wouldn't stop anyone who was intent on causing harm.

Was this meant to be funny? Cuz it kinda is.

What, other than weapons, is NOT allowed to be carried in at the parks?
From the Disney FAQ:

Q. Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the theme parks? A. Items that you may not bring into the theme parks include but are not limited to:
  • Items with wheels, such as:
    • Wagons
    • Skateboards
    • Scooters
    • Inline skates
    • Shoes with built-in wheels
    • Two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances
    • Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (92 x 132 cm)
    • Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. (Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.)
    • Any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Folding chairs
  • Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
  • Pets (unless they are service animals)
In Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park, balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted for the safety of the wildlife.

Would never happen again there have been multiple incidents on planes since 911 and the person in question was taken down within seconds.

Anyone can do anything on any day of the week.

I don't have an opinion on how effective WDW security is or isn't, but at least there is some kind of presence.

100% total detection and safety is impossible. If airports haven't been able to stop people, then why should we bash WDW?

Security like the castle is just make believe and forced perspective.

And bombers are stooping to a new low if they are taping exploding cakes to their legs.

Actually the Christmas 2009 plane incident would have succeeded if the moronic terrorist would have set off his bomb properly....scary but true.

You can't blame the implementation of security check on no one but the terrorist.

Undercover security is also in the parks and at the frnt gates as well.

Disney just likes to fondle your things and waste your time before entering their parks. They're certainly NOT doing this for your own safety. Be mad about this!

Security @ wdw

The fact that this thread came up shows people are concerned about potential situations happening @ WDW. Some insiders imply that there
is a greater security check/whatever going on beyond the general bag & stick @ the gate show inside the parks unknown to visitors. Lets all HOPE so :confused: Duckberg :brick:

I right cause a motivated terrorst is going to be put off by an overweight 60 something in a Disney uniform, and of course it would be way beyond their ability to move their dasterdly deads to a resort where theres no man with a stick and you can put vehicles right next to buildings.

Some folk are also concerned about alien abduction, UN world domination and the need to arm bears. but whatever helps folk sleep at night.:goodnevil

There are risks to doing anything. A suicide bomber is just (or almost) as likely to be a WDW as at your local mall, movie theater, or grocery store. The difference here is that WDW has some security personnel checking at the front gates, quite efficiently in my opinion, for egregious offenders. I know nothing about the behind the scenes security operations but I'm confident to say that I'm sure Disney's watching all of us, all of the time, and has a better plan in place for disasters than your local grocery store does.

Will the security guys at the front get the suicide bomber? Probably not. Will they get the punk kid with the toy gun who wants to pull a stupid prank? Yes, and I think thats the point.
