Have you been able to visit any?
It's a real sore subject with Dave. Although he agrees with me entirely about what's happening there, he can't totally tear himself away. I'm a strong believer in worshiping together, so every week we go through this, and his usual response is that we'll go to another place next week.

((Hugs)) Betty. I'm sure it's hard. My dad's never really made any commitments at all, so very often Mom will go to church alone. Sometimes he goes to humor her, but that isn't a very good reason, is it?
When you're close to people it's hard to move on, but your reasons are justified. I hope you and Dave are able to resolve this.

Thanks. Part of the problem I know is that it's the church he grew up in, so there are some strong emotional ties there, and the other thing that I think is on his mind is that he would want his mother's funeral there when the day comes. When his dad died, the church was between pastors, and they ended up having the service right at the funeral home with Dave's cousin (an episcopal priest) doing the service. I know that really bothered him at the time.
Meanwhile, I feel so empty on Sunday mornings....

Good Morning.

Betty may I ask why ya'll are boycoting your church?
There have been a series of issues Susan, but the last straw was when, after basically forcing the organist out, the pastor hired an interim organaist who is an atheist and lives with one woman while he is still married to another. I just can't handle the fact that the pastor says that's OK. Most of the congregation don't know the whole story, but those of us who do are apparently stupid.

That is a very good reason to boycot. I guess we need to pray for the church, pastor, and the organist.

I would attribute that to him, as he apparently picks and chooses which parts of the Bible apply to him. Stupid and incredibly arrogant.

You know I think that's what bothers me the most. When he first came to our church, I really believed he was a good person, and set a high standard for all of us. As I got to know him as well as I did, that image was tarnished somewhat, but now it seems that he's really lost his way, so how can I expect him to lead us?

I don't know how your leadership works, but we have elders here, and it is their responsibilty to ensure what is taught is according to Scripture, as well as the example we set to the community. Our eldership wouldn't even go outside the congregation to fill any role (although the instrument issue doesn't apply to us, we are acapella). Our preacher is ultimately accountable to them. I am thankful that we have excellent, Biblically centered elders.

We have elders too who are elected to 3 year terms (Dave finished his third term last year). Unfortunately the way the system works now, the nomonating committee hates to ask anyone, so what ends up happening is that the pastor recommends who he wants and the nominating committe does whatever he says, so the elders are basically the pastor's puppets. hat's pretty much why Dave is not an elder anymore.
