Maybe it's on fire?

Originally that thing was suppose to include a laser and light show but the budget got cut.

The original 1997 artwork doesn't look much different than the 2015 Season Of The Force reality. Except now with LED technology the beams are much brighter and crisper than the old fixtures they would have used in '97 had Paul Pressler not slashed the budget.

That radar thing shoots smoke out of it?

I think it's odd that it emits smoke but doesn't move.

The lighting around the land looks great, but I'm surprised that it's all static. This is an area where everything used to be in motion and now almost all of it, including the fancy new lights, just kind of sits there. Also, why is the exterior of the Space Mountain dome completely dark?

Yes
The ghost galaxy projectors for the space mountain dome remains in place. Hopefully they are preparing something that is not quite ready.

There's a bunch of new lighting effects all over Tomorrowland for Season Of The Force. They really went all out, and it's a huge improvement. This is how I remember Tomorrowland feeling at night 30 years ago; electric!

just think what Disney could have done in this vein with TRON and TL...

Yeah, except TRON had a US box office of $172 Million on a studio budget of $170 Million. After marketing expenses the movie ended up costing Disney money to produce, merchandise sales were dismal, and the planned TRON sequel was cancelled.

I understand it had a cult following among a thin slice of Disneyland fans, but to say it wasn't a big hit is being generous.

They did a TRON lighting thing in Hollywood for elecTRONica that was very well received. Much better received than the actual movie, in fact. It would be a safe bet to say that Star Wars will take in well north of $172 Million in its first domestic weekend next month.

I don't care much about Tron, but dammit the Tron Coaster in Shanghai's Tomorrowland looks rediculous. I so wish it was coming to DL park in Anaheim.

That's kind of what I was leaning on... what they did for electronica was pretty awesome (and ahemm... that was temporary too.. yet look what they did for FLYNNs). But taken to the scale and with the foundation TL has (vs Hollywood BL) the potential is just amazing.

And I still believe... if you make something awesome with something people don't NEED the specific background to connect with or think is awesome.. it can work. It's why elecTRONica worked... it was genuinely fresh, cool, and fun. Of course StarWars is in another league... but the imagination running wild leads me to believe it didn't NEED StarWars to try something like this.

The difference though is that it's unlikely that many people went to DCA specifically because there was a Tron themed party at the park. Season of The Force is certain to draw additional traffic and increase visitor spending in ways that the ElecTRONica planners could only dream of because it's Star Wars.

It's just a huge letdown for me. I'm drunk, but I'm right. This is the best they'll do with Star Wars and Marvel at present time? It's basically meet and greets, advertisements and merchandise. Come on, Disney!

- Endor Sightseer, who misses the Tomorrowland music loop, which was last heard uncharacteristically blaring throughout the entire land on the evening of November 15 and made present-day Tomorrowland tolerable.

You may want to consider taking a break from Disneyland.
To be fair lets not act like they just went all in with this. Hyperspace mountains is great and so is the new ST scene, but it's not like they just dumped money on everything. They threw in some blue lighting, made a clip film in the old theater and put up some banners. The food is barely edible to put it nicely, and overall they didn't do much with innovations. I mean I think it's cute and I'll be checking it out in person in a couple months but this is nothing amazing by a long shot

Who said it had to be amazing? Granted it needs slave Leia and some ewoks. Sure the food sucks but I avoid eating in tomorrowland anyway. Hyperspace Mountain has a 75 min to 2 hour wait. Star Tours is another hour. The rest of the park feels a little empty right now. I'd say its doing it job a little too well. I'd say the star wars music is an improvement over the old music loop.
