Amen to that... But what about figment?

I dont mind the Epcot specific characters, because thats just what they are...Epcot specific. You don't get sick of seeing them everywhere (in fact...outside of their respected pavilions, you would never see them at all).

Now, im not saying you dont see other characters at Epcot, obviously you do. But compaired to the rest..Epcot is the most "Un-cartoon" like of them all.

EPCOT embodies the disney vision. Mickey mouse is not the Disney vision, he is a character that is associated with the company.

EPCOT is where I've always gone when I feel the need to experience magic away from cartoon and movies that disney offers in the other parks

And I'd disagree about Mickey embodieng Disney even though thats what a majority seem to agree on.
What the embodiment of Disney is Happiness, the future, Mankind and its progress. . . Which actually is more EPCOT than it is Magic Kingom.
MK embodies the whimsical aspect of Disney, the childhood nostalgic quality.

It came from another great UK site where many other smilies and assorted characters reside. Just click the link there if you'd like to check it out.

By the way, I wonder if anyone remembers (or is sufficiently aged to recall) the WDW 15th anniversary cake that had been plopped into the middle of the Epcot entrance fountain. It was about...oh, 12 feet in diameter. That might have been the same year that they were giving away a car each day, right at the turnstiles. Also aboout that time, maybe a year earlier, they had a circus in what was then Communicore... yep, elephants and all, on a stage that covered the old (pre-dancing waters) central fountain. At one point in the show, two motorcyclists rode along cables from the roofs of Communicore East and West up to a point near the top of SpaceShip Earth.

I liked it with 2000 on it, it looked really cool all lit up, but they should have either kept it at 2000 (which would be stupid, for obvious reaons) or took 2000 down, without replacing it.

The hand and "EPCOT" sign slapped onto Spaceship Earth looks really tacky and quite stupid. SE should stand on its own, it doesn't need trash like that stuck on it.

Doesn't really bother me that much, I mean, I'd rather not have it there if possible, but it is, and it looks OK...

The hat in MGM is in a horrible spot, I loved walking up towards the Chinese theatre, and now it just looks funny behind the hat... so hopefully one day they'll move the durn thing, but i doubt it :(

It just looks dumb. It's like they had to put a sign up so all the morons who don't know anything about Epcot (AKA "The Ball") would know where to go.

I'm really surprised at all the negativity towards a silly hand and number.

Honestly, I *NEVER* gave it a second thought. I'm starting to feel like the only one that goes to these parks to have fun and not look at what's wrong with everything.

Sure, I will notice when someone is rude, behaves poorly or if a ride is a total mess(I havent seen this). But jeez!!! Talk about trivial !!!

First off it's not a number. After the millenium celebration it was changed from 2000 to Epcot.

All I see here are opinions...if I don't like something I'm not going to grin and act like I like it. And I don't think this is the littlest bit trivial after all it is a 100 + foot structure not hard to notice.

Now trust me I certainly don't let something like the sign get in my way of enjoying WDW. And I've never ever gone into a park looking for whats wrong...thats never even occured to me. But something like this sticks out like a sore thumb and is asking for criticism. Really I could care less as long as the parks are there and everythings up to Disney standard but beleive it or not I do have an opinion on and when someone asks I'll answer truthfully.

First off, that's not the point. That just shows how much it bothers me...

See, I don't understand why it would bother anyone. It's just a structure. It's something you won't find at home. It's all part of the experience, for me. If it goes away, I won't miss it, but I won't be upset if it stays either. It's just never even crossed my mind to think of it one way or another. It's a part of being there and it doesn't detract from anything for me at all.

Well I don't know about you but I started going to WDW long before they added the wand and sign and I enjoyed SE as it was. Now I'm all for change and love to see new things when I go on a trip to WDW. But in my OPINOIN the wand was a change for the worse. Now why don't we leave it at that. As I said befor thats my OPINION which i don't think you will have much luck in changing . ;)

Well..actually..the topic of this thread is that SE Earth looks stupid..not if it bothers you...but thats besides the point..we thread drifted as usual...

I can tell you why it DOES bother me....I grew up with SE being my fondest memory of WDW...untainted..no hand..perfectly round..very symbolic. Now its a big marketing scheme...I look at it and mickey might as well be holding a dollar bill...
