Scheduling flight

My DH had the idea last night that we could fly into MCO late on the day before our vacation starts at DW, get a hotel near the airport (are there any?) and then return to the airport in the morning to catch DME and have a full day at the world. If we wait till the first day of our vacation to fly we would be getting up at 4:30 AM to get to the airport and arriving mid morning in Orlando. Hmmm maybe we should just get a hotel near the air port on this end, can't see that we'll be gaining much on the arrival time and Cleveland hotels have got to be cheaper than Orlando. Did I just answer my own question?

There's a Hyatt inside Orlando Int'l Airport but I think the rooms are a bit pricey. My advice would be to stick with your original plan and fly in to MCO the morning of your trip. Since you're using DME you won't have to mess with your luggage. It sounds as if you will be arriving in Orlando early enough to still enjoy most of the day at Disney.

Have a wonderful trip!!

Last trip, my friends and I flew in on a Red Eye flight and got there EARLY in the morning.

We left LAX at 1045 pm, and arrived in MCO at 630 am, or some ridiculously early time like that. Happy Limo picked us up, we got our grocery stop, and we checked into the hotel. We just wore what we had worn on the flight into the parks, and ended up getting an extra full day that way.

Your other choice is to just go ahead and book an additional night at the resort you are staying at -- it will be the same price if not cheaper than the airport hotel. I've often arrived at 9:30 - been at the resort by 10:30, and had a good nights sleep before embarking on the first park in the morning.

I did what the last poster said for one of our trips. DH and I booked a five night, six day with the DDP, and then added another night onto our ressie as a room only. Cost us $85 for another night at the Pop Century, and we flew out mid-afternoon, were unhurried getting to our resort with DME, unpacked a little, and spent the night at Downtown Disney, including having dinner at our fave, Fulton's.

Depending where you are staying, it should be no problem to add a night to your stay. But, say you're staying at a mod or deluxe,if you wanted to try and save money, but preserve the Disney experience, try booking your first night at Pop or All-Stars, and take DME there. The next morning, you can ask Luggage Services to transport your luggage over to your resort, go to your resort and check-in, and then hit the parks. We felt it was worth our $85 to get that extra full day in, and it was nice to have an easy evening our first night there.

We originally planned to do this on our upcoming trip - our flight gets into MCO at 10:30 pm. so we planned to stay off site that night then go ahead and check into PopCentury first thing in the morning. However, when we figured the cost of getting from the airport to the hotel, and the inconvenience of checking into 2 different hotels, we opted to just add the extra night onto our original reservation and rely on ME to get us to our resort.

Not old, just vintage.
My vote would be to just get into MCO late in the evening, but go over to WDW for the night. Stay at a value resort for the night if you want to save some money. The time and energy you will save by not having to deal with checking in and out of an off property hotel and then not having to travel over to another hotel will be worth it in the long run.
