Scary question

Small drift here, but I am always amazed by the conspiracy theorists who think that each time an incident occurs, (with any large corporation), that there's an immediate attempt to cover it up. And NO, I am not in a mgmt. position, nor do I work for a large corporation.

I remember the incident, and remember cherry pickers being used to "lift" guests down. It was reported locally.

Not sure if my memory is off. But I think I remember the windows on the sides having mention of poping them out in case of an emergency. I know they use to pop out a few inches to let in fresh air the way back windows in some 2 door cars pop outward.

But if they ever wanted me to walk on the rails, I would be hugging them crying like a baby with everyone behind me trying to get past. I am way afraid of heights.

Little bit of a drift here:

My aunt who is like 70 told me once about how she had been on the parachute drop at Coney Island NY and it got stuck and they had to climb down on ladders from fire trucks. The real scary thing is, she said it happened two her twice. I personally could not go back up.

there is no way that disney would have allowed the passengers to walk on these tracks - wide or not.

True. Disney would have never even given a thought about sending its guests down that track. Think of the law suits if someone were to fall.

I believe the windows in the monorail vehicles are designed to open in case of an emergency. A hook & ladder truck would have been right at the scene to help guests down from the monorail. Disney has very extensive guidlines for all types of evacuations.

Yeah, SOP says that in a true emergency, where evacuation is necessary, you are to use the escape hatches in the roof, to access rope ladders. You all are also correct in assuming that they would direct ANYONE to walk down the monorail beams. Ture they are concrete, but you would be entirely too close to the electric bus bars, and with the amount of voltage in them, it would be possible to arc to them - can't always assume they'd be shut off.

Someone mentioned the old monorails. I was in Vegas last March and they have a monorail that goes between one casino and the MGM Grand. It looked strikingly familiar, then a friend of mine (Also Disneyphile) and I both noticed a sign on the driver's door: "CAST MEMBERS ONLY". We all know that would only be on a Disney device. It turned out that the MGM Grand bought 3 or 4 of the retired WDW monorails.

Well, you can believe what THEY want you to believe or you can read between the lines and insert the missing pieces. It is a FACT Disney covers up their investigations, missleads the media, instructs cast members to lie, DENYING ANYTHING THAT WILL HURT THEIR IMAGE. I have read many books and seen actual court documents IN these books to back it up. If you want to find the truth open your mind, then your eyes-It's all right in front of you.
Sometimes I wish I didn't know the things I know, I'd sleep better.

I was there when it happened, and I watched Disney security staff confiscate film from cameras. It's not a conspiracy theory here, I was still pretty young, and quite scared by what was going on. My dad, being a policeman at the time, said they were 'just taking the film for evidence'. Of course, that wasn't the real reason.

I'm not saying that this was necessarily a coverup, or that management even instructed this to happen. But it did happen, I can remember a very upset woman in my mind clear as day. The guard said "Hey - nice camera, can I see it?" then he opened the back and said "Oops - sorry maam, but we will be happy to buy you some new film".

It's quite possible these people could have been over-zealous and doing it on their own. You never know. The important thing was that no one got hurt.

If this happened again though, it would be nearly impossible to cover it up due to the fact that digital cameras don't have film.

There were still PLENTY of pictures that got out. I remember going to Denny's the next morning before we went to the Magic Kingdom, and my dad came back to the table with a newspaper that had a large photo of it.

isin't that stealing? I mean, how does he know if that person took a picture or whatnot. You can't just go, " hey nice camara" and take the film and leave. I find that a little wierd. Your going to tell me im going to lose all my vacation pictures just becuase he thinks I took a pic. Man. thats wrong.
and wierd. and everything that ends in ong and ierd. :hammer:

It happens a lot more than you might think. It goes on a lot when events like this happen, just about anywhere you go. There is very little you can do about it, because historically, the courts don't award much more than the value of the film / memory. While the argument goes that they 'ruined the vacation photos', the counter argument is always 'how do we know you took them, and how do you know they even turned out'.

It's a goofy situation. Again, I doubt (hope) that when this happened, it wasn't Disney sanctioned. It could have been some over zealous guards who thought they were helping. I don't know. But I do remember it like it was yesterday.
