SCAD project about club at DTD.....

I have a friend who is going to art and design school in Savannah, and I just got off the phone with him, and he told me that a bunch of the students are working with WDI to design the interior and decorate a new night club venue.

DISCLAIMER

Please, do not flame me. I am only relaying what he told me. Take it with a grain of salt.

He told me that some of the students are working with WDI on a new night club that is being put into DTD. It will be a restaurant/night club for kids. Ages 15-20. No alcohol, but still with a dance floor, and a bar featuring all sorts of virgin drinks.

And the name of this kids club? King Louis'. The theme? Jungle Book. Lots of jungle themes. Very retro, very Rat Pack meets the Jungle Book. And the dance floor will be pumped full of Radio Disney tunes, and other kid friendly fair.

Its certainly in line with the more 'family friendly' theme that they wanted for Pleasure Island.

What do you guys make of this? Sound plausible?

Eh...I don't know. Could be. Odd that they would be working with students that aren't interns, not usually how WDI works.

To be honest, I don't know how that works. He didn't explain if they were interning, or if they had been recruited. I honestly don't know.......

In some ways, it does sound possible. Great for the kids to chill, but for parents? Couples? Adults?

Did he mention where it would be?

*Thinks of a more adult-oriented "Jungle" theme area, in which encompasses a certain club related to Adventure :zipit:*

*Knows that it's just another PI rumor  *

That is all he said. Everything he told me, that was all he knew. Like I said, take it with a grain of salt. I honestly don't know if he was telling the truth. I am only posting it here simply to bring up the fact that it is an interesting idea to consider.

I make of this that this is not intended to be actually build. It is a student assigment. Corporations and talent can test each other out. In design school, you'll be designing lots of things, for a lot of corportions. Just like in marketing school, you'll be developing entire martketing campaigns, none of which are intended to be put in practise.

Good fun though. And who knows what may come out of this co-operation.. .new talent or ideas for WDI, and the spread of WDI creativity into a new generation of designers.

Honestly, that sounds like the most plausible answer to this. Still, this is a really awesome idea that they could use!

I'm not ready to dismiss this as a simple educational exercise. If Disney wants to appeal to a certain demographic, what better way to do it than to ask them to design it themselves? Even if the whole Jungle Book theme is bogus, at least they're getting an idea of what would appeal to that age group--something that 30-40 yo imagineers may be a little out-of-touch with. Nothing says that they must turn to their own interns, especially if they're trying to think outside the box.

I've added salt per your suggestion, but maybe it isn't needed.

To be honest, I really think that this is a very possible idea. It fits PERFECTLY in the family friendly PI idea, and it actually sounds cool. I like the theming. And the name! King Loius'! Too cool.

If the OP's friend is going to SCAD, I think there might be some credence to the rumor, just maybe not with all the correct details. SCAD is one of the best A&D schools in the country and would be the kind of place WDI would look for talent. Then again, it could be something more along the lines of ImagniNations too which would, as some have said, be a more plausible explanation. Especially to anyone not deeply immersed in Disney (the source perhaps?).

My friend, Christopher, is not into Disney in the least. So he might have given me faulty info since he does not know the Disney Company as we do LOL

And he is, infact, going to SCAD. Glad to know you know of it!

The biggest problem I see with this is the fact that 15 year olds don't have a drivers license which really limits their ability to get there. I don't a place designed where parents will have to drop them off and pick them up (traffic there is already bad enough). And is there a curfew for underage in Florida? Not sure about that since I don't live there. I just can't imagine 15-17 year olds being able to stay at DTD until 2 or 3 in the morning.
Also there's alot of speculation that one of the reasons the clubs closed was because of problems with the young crowd. So I can't imagine them opening themselves up for more of this.
