Petitions have not saved any WDW attractions scheduled for removal yet, so why would one work now? Save your energy and focus on something in the present.

Exactly...Have online petitions ever worked? Why save a pretty much gutted pavilion? I am all for progress.. Perhaps its demise will mean a new pavilion...

Yeah, I would love for it to be demolished at this point. That means it serves more value as (potential) attraction space than it does as convention space.

If they won't bring it back ever, then just demolish it. I really don't want to have to watch them use that whole spot just for convention space, more like future ride space. A new pavilion would be amazing!

You people know how stupid you sound? Why would they demolish it? Horizons was demolished because it was having problems. Wonders Of Life's building is completely fine! It has no damage to it at all.

I still don't care what other people think of WOL, as a child, it was the only place (besides Test Track, UOE, and Maelstrom) that i looked forward to. Sure! Just pay attention to what the pavilion looks like minus the attractions. I thought the pavilion theme was neat, all those cool colors... It could hold a big croud (unlike most attractions such as the land pavilion)

one more question here, if you hate the pavilion so much, then why the heck do you come to a post even called "Save wonders of life!" Just make your own stupid post that says "Demolish wonders of life!"

idiots....

You do realize, and not to suppress any childhood memories here, that people are entitled to their opinions without being called an idiot or stupid.....

And by the way, this thread is over 18 months old. So, obviously the imperative need to save the WoL pavilion is no longer in place. Which you would have discovered had you gone back to the start of the thread.
You know, before calling people "stupid" or "idiots."

Amongst Disney message boarders, there are 2 distinct groups of people. Those who want nothing to change so that they can keep reliving childhood memories and in some strange way feel closer to Walt, himself, and then there are those who actually subscribe to Walt's philosophy.

"Around Here, However, We Don't Look Backwards Very Long,
We Keep Moving Forward, Opening Up New Doors And
Doing New Things, Because We're Curious...
And Curiosity Keeps Leading Us Down New Paths." -W. Disney

Epcot in it's creation by Walt was intended to be ever-evolving and improving... If improving means keeping the structure , then fine. If not, so be it. We ALL keep going back to Disney because they are doing something right. Otherwise we wouldn't be here.

Well, as an engineer, I do think we need to distinguish...

I've studied the engineering behind Horizons, and EPCOT Center as a whole. Some really amazing engineering went into that park.

Horizons wasn't torn down because of structural issues due to a design flaw. In reality, Horizons was designed and built to the standards that Disney (and the world of the 1980s) required, with a decent safety margin.

However, that isn't to say that Disney didn't allow the Horizons pavillion to fall into a state of disrepair. This was likely due to GE pulling sponsorship, and WDW Resort not wanting to put money into the building. It wasn't maintained properly. Even the most advanced and structurally sound buildings need preventative maintenance. For WDW to have brought the Horizons pavillion back to a usable state, it would have taken more money than Disney was willing to pay, though it would likely have cost less than the construction costs of Mission:SPACE. In the end, though, WDW and Compaq (now part of HP) wanted a new pavillion, so Horizons was removed. Nothing inherently wrong with the building, no sink hole, no major loss of interest in the attraction, just simple business. In their eyes they were "plussing" the whole space attraction theme with a very advanced ride.

That said, it is ok to miss Horizons. I would much rather have had them put Mission:SPACE in Wonders of Life (which would have needed to close years before it did) and then fix Horizons...but that isn't how it happened. EPCOT of 2020 will probably look different than EPCOT of 2010, and of 2000, and of 1990. Sometimes change is bad, sometimes it is good. After all, that is all an opinion. For me, growing up, Horizons captured what EPCOT was meant to be. It would certainly be nice if WDW did something with the unused space (WoL, upstairs Imageworks, etc) in what I consider tp be the most unique theme park in the world.
