Saratoga Springs

Hello everybody. Two months until Saratoga Springs, Disney's newest resort, and new member to the DVC family of resorts, opens.

Anyone here a DVC member? Have you recieved info about the resort? Do you like it, based on what you've seen/heard? What do you like about it, specifically?

Even if you're not and have heard about this resort, what do you think about it?

I'm in the DVC and I got some info on Saratoga a couple of months ago. Its themed from some town in New York or something. It looks really nice and in June we actually rode around the construction site. Its a pretty big site. The pool area looks like it's going to be cool and I think I saw something about a waterfall. It should be a great addition to the WDW resorts.

As far as I know there is still an area to act as a showcase for the Downtown Disney fireworks.

One of the main things about this new resort is the spa, anyone excited about that?

I used to live near Saratoga Springs. It is a reasonable sized town in upstate new york, about a half an hour drive north from the capital of Albany. Saratoga is a racing town. It has the regular race track for horses, as well as a harness track. Both are very large and popular. Saratoga is a booming place in the summer during the racing season. It is a postcard style town. Colonial buildings, the old marble colomns on the bank and town hall, etc. Portions of the town were featured in the movie the "Time Machine", and "Seabiscut". With the success of the movie "Seabiscut", and the actual living horse Funnycide, a regular at Saratoga, I would assume Disney saw it as a perfect opportunity to theme the hotel after it. The springs of Saratoga can be found throughout the main park, called Congress Park. They are always fresh, and cold. It's free, and great to get a quick bottle of water. Saratoga sells there own line of mineral water. Maybe Disney will do some magic and create a man-made spring at the hotel. ;)

My only problem with that property is its size. Even as the Disney Village Resort (way back when) and the Disney Institute the place was way too big.

I know it is going to be the biggest DVC resort yet, but I don't think it will be all that much bigger then OKW. I do hope however that that will learn from mistakes and do the layout much better (and put elevators in every building, with the amount of people who use strollers.)

You know all I hear about is the main pool, but if it is going to be that big it really needs more pools. I wonder what they will be like?

We plan on visisting 1st and seeing if they fixed some of the flaws from OKW before staying there. I like that fact it is less points then VWL and BCV, we really should get more points!

I stayed at the property when it was still the Disney Village Resort (so we're talking late 80's) so I don't remember it too well. But when I would ride the boat to Port Orleans from Downtown Disney I could see how big the resort is. It seems to go on forever.

We have also recieved the mailings from DVC and were looking into this resort for one of our next stays at the world.

We traditionally stay at a new resort after opening just to experience it...so I have a few questions for the experts here:

- Will Saratoga be really spread out like OKW, or is it a more confinded area like that of the BWV or BCV?

- Will the location have a "quiet pool" area or just the "feature pool?"

- In addition to the designated fireworks viewing area, will the PI fireworks be visable from any of the villa balconies, if so would those views be concidered "preferred" like those at BWV?

Thanks in advance!!:animwink:

The resort is very big (possibly bigger than OKW). Due to it's size I would be surprised if it didn't have quiet pools spread around the resort to go with the feature pool.

Well guys the reason I was asking your opinions is because I am going for an interview for front desk at Saratoga, and I wanted to know feedback and expectations.

I'm looking forward to staying at this resort. We are going early May this year so we will shoot for next year.

From what I've seen it looks amazing. I do hope they have enough quiet pools for its size.

The treehouse villas are still there. The entrance sign is still there too. But I don't think you can stay there. :(

my dad (we are also DVC members btw) seems to think that the treehouses are only for 'special' clients of Disney.

Saratoga Springs seems like it is going to have the quality and home-ness of any of the other DVC resorts, which I amvery excited for. I like the location to, near the shopping, for those who want to take a few days off from the theme and water parks to go shopping and to have some quite time.

It is too bad it will be hard for us to get in, since our home base is OKW. hopefully in a few years we will get to stay there as well!

I don't think it will be any more difficult to get in SSR then any other resort that is not your home. So far we have not had any problems trying out resorts other then our home (VWL). Just like it can be easy to get in OKW since it the largest, SSR should be easier to get in because of it's size (also it will take some time to sell out being as big as it is, that leaves openings. ) I think many people like us will want ot visit it before staying at it. If you really want to get in, try early before it sells out and before people who own there might be take their 1st vacation.

Also having a new DVC resort makes room and flexibility for staying at other resorts. ( more choices.)

hm, thank PhD. you make good points. We have always gone during peak times, which has definatly hurt our chances, though my parents insist we are now going on off-peak times, once my sister is done with college. :)

Just a follow up...The CM at DVC reservations said that they will start taking reservations on Feb. 4 for "non Saratoga Springs home resort guests." I plan on staying there in August, but my home resort in the Boardwalk Villas. But the CM said there should have no problem getting a room.

Guess I'll be on the phone on the morning of Feb. 4!:)
