Santa look-a-like causes distraction at WDW

but is there really any real harm in playing along? You're in the land of Fantasy after all.

Sadly, creepers and sickos can enter the Land of Fantasy just like anybody else. Not saying this guy is either--but the fact he wears "Santa-related" clothing in the middle of Summer to a theme park isn't doing him any favors in that department.

Seriously, am I the only one that set off a flashing red light for??? 9.5 on my Creep-O-Meter...

As he said, Disney doesn't own the image of Santa so truthfully there's not much they can do other than if he had been wearing a full Santa suit and was asked to change because of the costume rules.

WDW is private property. If they want to kick out everyone, say, wearing green shirts, they could do it.

Yep I understand but my point is simply that the guy looks like Santa, no matter what he's wearing, and as long as he's not forming a line and is basically just accomodating a sweet little kid who wants so badly to believe he saw Santa today (just as much as he believes he met Mickey) then I just don't see the harm in it. But again, like I said in my post, I totally see Disney's POV on this as they could be held accountable if he did something wrong during one of those occasions.

Now that said, yes it's private property and Disney can "kick out" anyone and everyone they'd like... but you better believe that if they did kick someone out simply because of the way they look (let's assume here he had no "santa related" clothing on) they'd be finding themselves in yet another law suit (right or wrong - sad but true).

Again, I think this guy took it a bit far and really do believe he leaves the bushy eyebrows, long hair and beard simply to get the attention but the same could be said of all the girls who wear the shortest shorts they can get away with or the guys who shave their head into a 2 foot tall mohawk etc. etc. I'd bet he'd love it if he had a line in front of him for autographs vs. being a humble guy who happens to look like Santa and descretely signs a piece of paper for a 3 year old. :)

Good God..I just clicked on that link.....Please lord let me unsee that.
That's no jolly old soul that's some younger dude with crazy wigged out white hair....That dude is creeeeeeeeeepy looking....
Honestly what parents were letting their kids approach him?
When you see people that look like this coming toward you --you put the arm on your kid's shoulder and do the wide berth move...

He looks pretty creepy to me... I wouldn't let my kids approach him. I would think that most people would be able to tell if he's part of the Disney team or not. I blame the parents for this also.
I'm a parent who agrees with you, but I could understand a parent observing an innocent exchange -thinking their child is "cute and sweet" to approach 'Santa' and that 'Grandpa' might be charmed by their child doing this.

And that's exactly it... my ex's father looked very much like Santa and every year he played Santa for a local mall. Of course then it was ok for hundreds of kids to not only approach him but sit in his lap and yet he was a complete stranger to them. Sometimes, even in this world where horrible things happen, you have to hold onto the magic a little. ;)

P.S.: The photo shows a man who seems younger, but my nephew had longer, gray hair at 30 years old - so I agree that until something a bit creepier happens, they really wouldn't want to interfere...(i.e. He didn't approach children, whisper for them to approach, etc.)

Why would any parent in their right mind allow their child to approach a stranger like that in JULY at Disney World??? RED FLAGS!!!!

. Even if he was wearing shorts and a Hawaiian shirt kids would still think he's Santa... look at the guy!

I understand BOTH sides of this, but with your comment above, he could have been 'SANTA' from the Summertime miniature golf park on property, right? If I remember the backstory for that attraction is that Santa and his elves come to WDW for a summertime vacation away from the north pole! OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT! So I could see the kids' confusion, but like another posts says, the parents are to blame some for allowing their kids to approach him!
I am a former CM, and I saw my share of celebrities and I noticed that MOST of the time, guests would leave them alone. They may look and point, but they never tried to go up to them, even though they had an escort! I personally would leave ANY celebrity alone...they are on their vacation with family, just like we are! WE don't want anyone to come running up and bothering me for a autograph!
