We are considering flying into Sanford, Thoughts on weather it's worth it? We were planning to rent a car anyway, so that's not really an issue. It make a closer airport to home more reasonably priced.

Thanks in advance!

It was worth it for my family of 3. Be sure to figure in the costs of seat assignments and luggage and everything. Non-stop flight plus time savings made for a great trip.

I flew Allegiant Air to Sanford a few years ago. Sanford is a small airport and it's easy to navigate compared to MCO in Orlando. I didn't feel that it was much further to drive from Sanford than MCO to get to WDW. If it makes the vacation cheaper than do it. As the previous person mentioned, look out for the added fees on Allegiant. No in-flight snacks, drinks, and added seat/ luggage fees. We did check on bag but the price was still better than other airlines at the time. Allegiant was also flying from my hometown airport so I didn't have to pay for parking at a larger airport or added gas/ tolls to get to the larger airport. Too bad they left my airport due to low volume or I would be flying to Sanford again.

Sanford is a pretty good, smaller airport. May I ask what airline you are flying?

Heck yes! Cheaper (usually) and easier. I flew in and out of Sanford in January - SO worth it and easy in/out with TSA. Still get there early am if you depart from there though. We flew Allegiant which tends to be a hub for them at Sanford.

We flew Allegiant out of Allentown a few times. If they had an offer and they were cheaper than Frontier, that's when we have used them. Sanford is about the size of Allentown and Wilkes Barre airports; easy to get around with just a few gates. However, since we stay off of 192 in Kissimmee, it adds about a half hour commute to and from the airport.

We have flown to Sanford from the NorthEast a few times. In general, we found that the higher prices for car rentals (or limos/towncars, if you prefer) offset the airline savings. [And, to agree with others, the added fees of discount airlines frequently sets up higher-than-expected flight costs].

Montgomery, Alabama is getting a direct flight to Sanford next month. What is the best way to get to Disney from Sanford and how long of a drive is it? Is Disney thinking of offering Minnie vans to Sanford, etc. or are they dedicated to only MCO?

It looks like a 45-60 minute(ish) drive from Sanford to WDW area. I went on the Mears website and used a party of 4 going to Coronado for an example and it seems to be about $135 each way. It would probably be more worth it to rent a car. Uber is also an option though I'm not as fond of the concept. I don't know of any plans to expand Minnie vans or DME to Sanford, maybe the airport's too small to make it worthwhile. Or maybe the agreement to have DME in Orlando was contingent on it being exclusive to that airport, I don't know.
