Should disney change the name of this restaurant given the unrest in the middle east? Given that the capital of Yemen is Sanaa. This was just a thought that I had this morning. I personally have no preference and just want your opinion.

Sana'a is the capitol of Yemen. Sanaa means "artwork" in Swahili. I think the name can safely stay.....

I don't think most people even associate the name with the happenings of the actual place. I would venture a guess that most people don't even know thats the name of the capital of Yemen.

I realize that the spellings are different but are pronounced the same way thus creating some confusion. Like I said, it was just a thought. Can name association create problems there?

Whit! Every night I turn on the news,someone somewhere is fighting in the world.So a far as changing restaurant names because of war conflicts.What a lot of piffle.Now wheres my gun,Iam off to shoot a burger at McDonalds.

No, I do not think they should change the name even if people do confuse the two... which I doubt many people will anyway. I just don't think it will be that significant.

If Disney is going to change names because of similarities with controversial names elsewhere then Ohana's would be in deep trouble.

I look at it this way...Sanaa (the restaurant) isn't exactly in the thick of the action. i.e. it's a resort restaurant in Kidani...not Jambo and certainly not nearly as well known or visited as anything on the monorail loop. The vast majority of the people who know about it are well versed in enough Disney stuff to know that it is African and origins and has 0 to do with Yemen.

I didn't know that. I don't pay attention to the news beyond what I find out here, on Reddit, and in school. It's depressing. Regardless, I highly doubt Disney would change the name of a popular restaurant because of a current event in another country, especially when, as someone pointed out, the restaurant name is spelled differently and means something completely different.
