Safe Areas to Live Near WDW 15-25 Min Away

From talking to my friends that do live down there, they all say that the closer you are to the parks, the worse your regular commutes are. The parks are a novelty, living 40+ minutes away will be the difference between you having to travel for 30 minutes to get some groceries or 5 minutes when you live a little further away. My wife and I plan to move to Florida some day but I will be nowhere near any theme park. Cost of living is pretty cheap in the entire state, and homes in florida in general are pretty inexpensive when you are just a short distance away from the major attractions.
Just have to ask, where are you from and where are you looking?

My life in Florida consisted of Key West, Downtown Ft Lauderdale, east Boca Raton, and Palm Beach. Not one of those places is inexpensive or low cost of living. Admittedly though there are places in the US that are similar or higher. But not too many.

I can buy a 3500 sq ft 5 bedroom home, with a yard, where I live now for the cost of an 1100 sq ft condo there.lol

Oh trust me.. I'll take my state tax here over my property tax there!!

Boca Raton was generous though.. We did get "free dog park passes" for living in the city limits.. I think it's like $265 per year if you're outside and want a sticker.. And we did get "discounted beach passes".lol. So they tried to make us feel better.... ;)

I do miss that dog park :(

I live in western ny. Taxes here are out of control and state income tax is stupid high as well.

Pleaces we have looked in Florida were close to my clients in Tampa. We found plenty of places that were extremely nice compared to NY.

Here is what found so far as a transplant. In Florida that has the upfront reduced or no taxes claims, hides their taxes in FEES, they love FEES. So you pay one way or the other but you'll pay no matter where you go. Now if you want to live in the middle of nowhere in isolation then you can live cheap. Lots of nice places here but there are FEES!!!!

...and hurricane insurance.,..and tolls...and high parking fees everywhere...obscene HOAs....higher bar tabs...

The first time I had State and City Income Tax taken out of my check I was in shock...then I remembered all of the things that I no longer have to pay for... I think I come out ahead even paying those taxes. :)

No.. We didn't... It was an apartment.

That's just crazy. Not you, the company that built the apartments. How can you build apartments in a region where it snows (and subject to power outages from snow and ice) and NOT include a fireplace? My daughter and her husband rent a 2 bedroom apartment in Florida. It has a fireplace, a nice brick one with a hearth. I think it gets cold enough maybe 10 days to really need it.

Its very rare to see an apartment with one here. Definitely not common in most newer homes either.

That's why people move to Florida, low or non-existent taxes..no state income tax. We just charge fees....or make tourists pay for it. But residents never stop to consider how that affects the state's ability to provide services.

I live 45 minutes from the Georgia border. You'd be surprised at the number of people who drive across the state line to buy gas. Georgia has a state income tax and due partially to that, gas can be 5-10 cents cheaper per gallon.

Edit: And cigarettes. Apparently cigarettes are cheaper in Georgia too. But I can't confirm since I don't smoke.

That is strange! I don't think I've seen a house without a fireplace. I live in the Midwest now.
We literally moved into a newly renovated house today. When searching, a fireplace was a negative when we were looking :) I guess us folks in western ny are tough. But id still rather live in a different state.

Except life is boring unless you are on the coast. I love my options each day, I can go to a park for just an hour or cruise around Epcot or just drop into the poly for a drink and people watch, or hit the coast in 90 minutes. celebration is central to it all. Every day is like a vacation. So I put up with some I4 traffic but I take it in stride and life is good. Oh and I have a Publix on my corner no 30 minute grocery commute. Only the types A's freat the traffic.
Hang loose and live a little.
What areas would you recommend in Celebration? How is the drive over to Disney from Celebration? I've always thought it would be a nice town to live in.

The drive to Disney is a breeze, you basically come out make a left and you are on the main road to the entrance. I live in the north village but all of the different villages are unique. It really depends on the type of home you are looking for.
The homes range from condo's to town homes to estate homes. If you love golf there is a great rated course that snakes through the community. Make a visit and have someone give you the tour so you don't miss anything including the town center.
