Very sad news tonight. A CM who works in the AK as a maintenance worker. He was a recent hire and was going through an apprenticeship in engineering services. One of the TV stations in Tampa did a story about this young man. He was just married in June 07 and leaves behind a wife and 2 step children. www.tampabays10.com but as of a few moments ago there was not a link about him yet.

When I 1st heard about this accident I wondered if any CM were driving to work this morning. It's very sad to hear I had a reason to worry.:(

Oh dear. I'd heard about the accident, and I was really hoping no CM's were involved (not that it would be any less tragic if there weren't). :(

this really hasn't been the year for CM's .... my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family ... just goes to show youthat you never know when it's "that time" .............

The State of Florida has been doing controlled burns for the past few days, and those haven't really caused any trouble, but this time it was a brush fire.

How stupid to have a controlled burn when the forecast was for a lot of fog.
There were obvious mistakes made and there will be an investigation, but weather was a large contributor to this, along with human error. Wait and see how it all plays out. When the winds died, the fog formed. I don't think they were planning on the winds dying out like they did.

The news here (in FL.) stated it was a "prescribed burn".
I realize weather was a large contributor, but fog was very likely, just as it has been for the last several days. I also realize hindsight is 20/20, so hopefully this will be a (hard) lesson learned.

that has tobe....*sigh*

Fog can or cannot happen ANYWHERE and ANYTIME at ANY condition. You can't just say "oh, fog'll be here at this time of the day for this period of time and it'll be this thick" i have driven along 27 heading home through an area that does get repeated amounts of fog throughout the year. along the same stretch of even road i'd go through fog, no fog, thick fog, fog above me but not on the road, thin fog all in the same night. fog is NOT predictable. to say so is moronic. this was an unfortunate accident and NOT the blame for letting something like this "happen".

When you watch the local stations here on Orlando they say that the burn got out of control and that the highway patrol knew about the burn they were doing. Also without wind the fog settled and the smoke too. There was an interview with a guy who missed the accident but was on the highway and the only thing that saved him was he swerved off of the highway into the grass. Right before all of it happened he said a highway patrolmen was directing traffic off the highway. So they were in the middle of closing the highway down. They just didnt do it soon enough. He said he couldnt see the accident cause he couldnt see out his car. It was so dark that he could barely see the front of his car. It is tragic and my thoughts do go out to the families involved

all i got to say is wait till everything comes out

there is alot of fingure pointing and what not going on to whos fault it is. i was one car infront of the entire thing, and i can tell you that it was caused by one person stopen in the middle of i-4, and its pretty hard for a 16 wheeler to stop at 75 mph when someone stops right in front of you. alot of people are lieing, i heard people say there was no smoke all night then it just showed up, LIE. I drove through it the night before and it was bad, just like a wall of smoke, and 9 hours later with the same smoke and now fog, was not a good thing at all. all i got to say is if youre not from fla, and youre driving here, dont stop because its raining, foggy, smokey, slow down maybe but dont freaken stop. ok venting over with.
