As the title states, I will be running in my first ever 5K as well as my first ever half marathon in, where else, WDW! I made a New Years resolution this year to get back into shape and my goal was to run a half marathon, and of course being the Disney nut I am, only wanted to run in WDW (it also gave me a great reason to force my husband to come along this time since my last trip to WDW was a solo trip in November). So lets get to the details:
The Who: Myself (Megan) and my husband Alex. My husband has only been to WDW once and it was with me back in 2012, he decided he never wanted to go back, but I married him anyway and I'm trying my hardest to convert him . This will be my 16th trip.
The When: November 6th-10th.
The Where: We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside
The Why: For the Wine and Dine Half Marathon and the Jingle Jungle 5K. Only I will be running, but my husband will be there for support (also he's a doctor so he may come in very useful for my aches and pains if I actually finish the race without dying).
Friday November 6th:
I'm planning on taking the first flight out of Philly to Orlando so we will get to Disney bright and early. I'll let him relax at the hotel while I head over to WWOS to pick up my race stuff. Once everything has been situated we'll head over to Hollywood Studios where we have a dinner reservation at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater at 5:35 and head back to the room early to get a good nights sleep. (I was originally planning on having this be our day at Magic Kingdom, but I was not able to get a reservation at Be Our Guest for this day, I'm going to keep checking and if one opens up I might switch our HS day to Monday)
Saturday November 7th:
Run the Jingle Jungle 5K, eat breakfast at Tusker House at 8:20, then spend the morning at Animal Kingdom. Have an early lunch at Flame Tree BBQ before heading back to the resort to relax before the half marathon. I'll eat a little something a few hours before the race (still researching food as well as timing for a night race). Run the half marathon, then meet up with Alex for the Finish Line Party. Stay until we are exhausted then head back to the resort.
Sunday November 8th:
Sleep in!!! Head to Epcot whenever we wake up and enjoy the Food and Wine Festival. No reservations this day as we will use the festival for our lunch/dinner.
Monday November 9th:
Have breakfast at Kona Cafe at 8:00 then head to Magic Kingdom. Have dinner at Be Our Guest at 4:50. (If I can switch our Be Our Guest dinner to Friday I will since MK closes early this night for the MVMCP. Also I am waiting to see if the Osborne Lights will be back this year and if they are figure out when they begin, last year it was on a Sunday, if that's the case, we will head over to HS after dinner to see the lights). If we keep this as our MK day, I plan on heading over to the Poly to go to Trader Sam's at night, maybe watch the fireworks from there before heading back to our resort.
Tuesday November 10th:
Come home
That's it so far until I make our Fastpass selections!! For anyone who has run the Wine and Dine and the Jingle Jungle any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. I have started training already since I've never done a race before and since I have bilateral knee problems as well as back problems from old gymnastics injuries I wanted to give my body plenty of time to get adjusted.
