Shrek, Minions, The Fast and Furious, those are all much higher quality IPs that Frozen and Star Wars, I mean come on! Universal thanks their lucky stars they aren't saddled with Star Wars and Frozen!

I'm not making fun of their film distributing track record. I'm making fun of what they choose to base theme park attractions on.
One of my favorite shows is The Walking Dead. I love the show, just love it. But a theme park attraction? Come on.

And the only reason I always pull them in to arguments is because Disney fans seem think that everything Universal does is gold, and everything Disney does is horrible, despite it being so obviously opposite to where the truth actually lives. What kind of a response would Disney fans have if Fast and Furious received a home in a Disney park?

...there's no denying Universal as a film distributor, as a whole, has had a better and more legendary track record than Disney has or will ever have....

Legendary?

Seriously, ask a random person to quickly name a Universal film and see how long it takes them.

It's funny, because all of the properties you mentioned are popular. Shrek is one of DreamWorks' most popular franchise, same goes for F&F (for Universal), and Despicable Me/Minions has made a buttload of money. I don't see your point.

Same goes for The Walking Dead. Have you been to Horror Nights? The Walking Dead attraction on the studio lot by the soundstages is THE most popular. You're using poor choices for your argument.

Isn't USH building this as a year round maze? There is talk of a Buzz Lightyear shooter based on the show.

So it's okay for Universal to base it's attraction on IPs that have made a butt load of money, but not Disney?

Legendary?

Yes. The Universal Globe.. the MGM Lion.. the 20th Century fanfare.. or the WB shield.. all are embedded in people's minds. And it doesn't matter if they can't pin Bond to MGM, or Jaws to Universal... when someone plays the Jaws soundtrack there is no dying it. Or when someone sees the Psycho House.. or ET.. Or Jurrasic Park.. or Back to the Future.. and many more...

It has a library of superstars. Enjoy so, they were able to make theme parks on them alone ;)

Not sure how this question has anything to do with the topic, but I'll bite.

To answer your question, yes. Universal Studios and Disneyland sprouted from two different concepts. Universal's lot has been in place for over a century. It was a studio first. The studio is arguably Universal's first ever attraction, as guests would pay a few pennies to take a tour of the lot to see where the movies were being filmed. Universal is a studio park; although that park has also seen better days and also had better attractions years ago, with a few somewhat original attractions, the main focus and theme has always been movies and television, and so the "ride the movie" concept is acceptable.

I've talked about Disneyland and original attractions multiple times already, so I'm sure you don't need me to explain anymore. The concepts of Universal Studios (Hollywood) and Disneyland are completely different.

I don't even know what the person you're responding to said, but I'm guessing they were downplaying Universal's status in terms of their films?

When I hear the Jaws soundtrack I think Steven Spielberg, not Universal.

I agree that Universal has a great history and an incredible catalog of notable films, but I don't buy the notion that the reputation of Universal Studios' brand supersedes Disney's in the minds of the general public.

As far as relevancy, it is the only studio to release 3 billion dollar films in the same year.

Yet their box office success has not strengthened their consumer brand, nor has it translated into a level of theme park dominance that justifies their absurd admission fees. The Magic Kingdom was ranked the number one attended theme park globally in 2015 while USO and IOA up the road ranked 11th and 12th respectively - and that's in the aftermath of the latest HP expansion. CC is right to wonder about some of their IP choices for theme park attractions, especially in light of the online hype that they are supposedly going toe-to-toe with Disney.
