Royal Caribbean or Disney Cruise Line?

I would agree with Castaway Cay being one of the stronger focal points of DCL. Out of curiosity - is everything on the island included with the cruise fare (i.e. food, snorkling, etc.)
Food, yes. Swimming, use of the water slides, beach, games, etc. is all included. There is no charge for snorkelling, but there is an equipment rental fee. We had our own equipment, so we were ok there. You can also rent bikes, water floats, etc. And there are wave runner tours, stingray encounters, etc, which all cost.

But don't assume away the other differences people tell you about. In almost all areas, DCL is better. The question is whether it's enough better.

I've sailed both Disney (3 of 4 ships) & RCI's Allure of the Seas. We personally prefer Disney for various reasons. I would sail Royal again, tho. For the right price & convenience (they sail out of Galveston which is 1/2 hour from us). Absolutely. Both have their strengths & weaknesses. As Disney fans, its kind of obvious why we personally prefer sailing with Mickey. ;)

I think, also, I would consider the itinerary when choosing a cruise line. For port heavy itineraries where pretty much your ship is your "hotel" then I'd weigh out spending less for the cruise & more on port activities. If its a cruise with a bunch of sea days then maybe spending more for the preferred ship experience is the way to go.

Carnival does get a bad rep but to me it is absolutely unfounded.
"Absolutely unfounded"? I got two words for you: "Poop Cruise". Two more: "Costa Concordia".

Carnival may be working hard to improve this reputation. (They started a $300 million investment in safety and maintenance upgrades last June.) But there's just no way to say that the reputation is "absolutely" unfounded.
