I saw this patent filed by the Disney Company on the 14th. It sounds pretty interesting. Some kind of ride vehicle (or maybe raft) with water guns on it? I'm not really sure since the patents are always put in "legal terms". Here is a link to it: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100009767

Could this be for a future attraction at WDW? Or do you think they just wanted to snatch the patent while they can?

Sounds more like something in a water park, could be in a theme park though.

Really does not sound like something for an announced attraction, but has potential for an uannounced one.

Also it could be tech that they have developed and have no use for.

I feel Like I have seen a ride or something like the description! Can't remember where though:shrug:

I think Eddie Sotto mentioned this technology in his epic WDWMagic thread, if you happened to follow it. He said there was a group talking about it at a theme park convention he attended.

New Ride System Patented by the Walt Disney Company

On Show #155 of the WDW Radio Show, Lou Mongello discusses a new patent filed by the Walt Disney Company.

The patent is seemingly for a new ride system for a water based track ride that would allow guests on the ride to spray water onto other guests, and seemingly control certain elements of how wet they get. There was no indication as to where or how this patent would be utilized, but when I heard him talk about it, it reminded of a concept I have seen in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, called the Roller Soaker.

They have one of these at Hershey Park:

The difference with the Disney patent, is that it seems guests will have more control over the vehicle, and perhaps the aiming of the water. Should be something to look out for in the future, but it could just be something they're saving for future use, like the Morphing Coaster.

i've been on the one in hershey and it is sooo much fun. the people below can get so wet if they are not paying attention, but they can also spray the riders. tons of fun on a hot day.

Interestingly, considering recent news, Legoland has a ride that has both the folks on the ride and watching the ride shooting water at each other. Can't remember the name, but it's pirate themed. It is great fun in the summer, but not so much any other time. Would love to see the concept executed with the full Disney touch. Hope it's not as lame as Kali where one jerk bystander can douse you.

They had one of these at Carowinds too, for a time. If it is anything like that, it is more of a Typhoon Lagoon/Blizzard Beach type ride because you got very very wet. (In Carowinds, it was adjacent to the water park section).

Could be entirely different though, hence the new patent.

I am more interested by this "morphing coaster" idea. Please explain what that is!!

Awesome! I love rides where there is the possibility of getting soaking wet, add the chance to do the same to other people and this sounds like a future favorite.

Make it happen Disney!

It's called Splash Battle. Here's a couple pics I've taken of it...
