Rose&Crown Illuminations View

What is the best time (or successful time) to make a dinner reservation at the Rose&Crown for if you want to have an Illuminations view? Do you need to slip the Hostess a tip for a good seat?

Our reservation was for 7.30pm we arrived at about 7.15pm and requested a terrace table, there was no problem getting the table but we had to eat slowly and order a dozen coffees to hang on to the table, we where lucky as it had been rainning so the umberellas in the very front patio tables where down and the tables empty. If the umberellas where up the veiw might not be as good. I don't know if the excellent veiw justifys the price of such a mediocre meal. Traditional English Pub Grub knocks the socks off what they serve up there.

Why would someone from the UK eat at Rose And Crown?? Actually I made the same mistake...being from Arizona I know GOOD Mexican food and I made reservations for the Epcot mexican place. Big mistake....it is only GREAT if you do not already know the good life. Thanks for an idea on the time. I probably would not recognize good english food if it bit me in the leg so I am sure Rose and Crown will suffice for the inexperienced.

It's gotta be a sub-conscience desire to eat at a place that caters a cuisine familiar to your homeland but the food is hardly ever as good as home.

This ol Tramp can't eat PIZZA anywhere in the world except from the tri-state area of NY, CT, and NJ....why?...cuz pizza anywhere else tastes like soggy cardboard with a can of tomato sauce sprinkled on it. I don't know why they have such a hard time making GOOD pizza down South.

Three reasons for eating in the Rose and Crown in no particular order:-
1)They do know how to mix a decent G & T (probably the only decent one's in three weeks)
2) The football scores
3) The firework veiw is great
Apart from that no reason to go there at all:)

Isn't that the truth? And the chain pizza is crap--Dominos, Papa whoevers, etc. Some of it is okay if you consider it another food, but it sure isn't PIZZA. The best places are the family-owned Italian ones... :)

My brother loves pizza, and when he was younger he'd order it in Florida, even though we would warn him it wasn't *really* pizza. He was always disgusted with what they tried to pass off as pizza...

The fish and chips from Harry Ramsdens is ok. God knows what fish it was but it was white, fried in crispy batter and the chips were ok. We took it away and sat in the square listening to the British invasion, happy days:D

My favorite pizza is plain cheese from Domino´s. However, the best pizza I´ve ever had was from a place called Hungry Howie´s (?) in Flint, MI. It had some kind of cajun spice on the bread and it was delicious! Of course... not too much italian taste was left... hehe. Real italian ones are a lot simpler, but very good too... ;)

As for the view from Rose and Crown (to stop the thread drift a little...) It´s good but I don´t think it is great... it is nice to be seated outside, but sometime the wind just makes it very smokey... I never ate there, only had desserts at the terrace and they were real good!

Some people also sit at the Cantina de San Angel (the fast food area outside the Mexican Pavillion), and if you are seating right in the middle, the view is ok, but if you are on the Norway side, there is no view! The food there sucks... disgusting Tex-Mex... the only good thing if it´s hot are the "churros"... and the margaritas, of course...

Make it for 7:30 or 7:45, if they seat you right away, kill time with some cocktails before you order dinner. The food comes pretty fast after you order.

The food at R&C is good not great, keep your expectations under control. The service is very good outside, inside can be a battle to get near the bar.

The view is the best, even better than a cruise. It's worth doing once just to check it out.
