Rose and Crown Pub???

I'm beginning to prepare for my November vacation to Disney and am thinking of eating at the Rose and Crown Pub. I've read a lot of reviews and they are very mixed. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. Also, we (party of 6), were hoping to dine outside to watch Illuminations. Can you wait for an outside table? I have read in some reviews that they were not allowing people to wait for an outside table anymore. If you have waited in the past, about how long is the wait? I know that in the past we have waited for 30 minutes (with PS) at Le Celler for ANY table. What time would you make the PS for 6 people? I was thinking 7:45????

Hey Katiesmom!

We ate at the Rose and Crown for illuminations a couple of years ago. We were a party of four and the CM simply asked us if we would like to sit outide or inside(it was very chilly, but we still chose outside!!)

We sat on the side of the restaurant so we did not have a direct view of the show but, when it started we were allowed to go to the back of the building to watch(we had to crouch down so as not to block anyone else's view). It was great!! Let me say though that sitting inside didn't look to bad either...the restaurant has many large windows and the lights are dimmed. I would think you would be able to see quite well!!

Now for the bad news...the food is not too great. We had very bland and oily fish and chips. Plus we are not drinkers so the great selection of ale went to waste. This is just my opinion, others might like it. It's just that in comparison to other food I have eaten at WDW it didn't measure up.

That being said...I would probably eat there again if only for the great show!:)

A nice spot

No, it ain't fancy, but the food is decent and if you enjoy beers, well...
It is a good site if you can get PS for the time. I usually visit for lunch rather than dinner, then throughout the day....

Lap around World Showcase, pint of Guinness,

I really enjoyed eating at the Rose & Crown when I had lunch there one time. The menu is kind of limited but that's typical of your traditional English pub. I LOVE the fish and chips there. Some of the best I've ever had.

As for getting a table for Illuminations... They do not guarantee a table outside, but you can sometimes luck out if you ask.

Rose and Crown is my choice for our September trip. We always eat at Mexico's San Angel Inn and this time I want to try something different. I am also torn about the reviews which are so mixed. Has anyone ever tried the Bailey's creme brulee there?

The limited menu depends on which pubs you go to ;)

That's funny because I've always been the opposite. I usually get some fish & chips in England, but this past trip I wanted to do something different, so I had lunch at the Cantina de San Angel and dinner at the Yakitori House (I rarely do the sit down restaurants as I'm usually on a tight budget).

Never tried the creme brulee though, but it sounds very yummy!

Thanks for your thoughts on the Rose and Crown. I think we are going to pass on it this year anyhow. I just have not found 1 review or person who thinks the place is great... and if I can't be assured of a good table for Illuminations, then it's just not worth it to me right now. Any thoughts of the German buffet? I heard that it was a fun place to eat???

I have read lots of good reports on Rose & Crown. I personally don't eat there because I get get that menu at home and wish to try different things on holiday. As for The German buffet I',m not a fan of OOmpah-Music so tend to avoid it. Though a friend of mine loves the place. Though you will get a lousy view of Illuminations from your table

I would not rate R&C as great, but, it is pretty good. I love the Fish and Chips and the Ploughman's Salad they serve at lunch. The fruit and cheese plate is great also. Wish they would bring back the Trifle.
They will not guarantee anyone a "good" table for Illuminations, but, I have told them if they cannot seat me outside near the railings to please give the table to someone else and I have always been seated outside. If you are nice to them then they will try everything to get you what you want. Bully them and you will be eating in the kitchen. :)

Germany is very nice and the show is cute. The food is OK (too heavy for my tastes) but, it is inside and there is NO view of Illuminations.

I usually do the same, but I skip the food and the laps around the world showcase.

Now, I'm a bit confused...
The opportunities you have to watch Illuminations while you eat are Rose and Crown, the two French restaurants (if you get near a window), or Cantina de San Angel (Mexico) which is taco/burrito kind of fare (although sitting outside with a Dos Equis or Margarita is fine! Then there is the Tangierine Grill at Morocco for a Shawarma Sandwich. Otherwise its a hot dog, turkey leg or popcorn and you can enjoy the show from wherever.

The German buffet is decent with a fair show (but it is indoors), hence Barnums reference

So with that said, Rose and Crown is the best food with outdoor seating, or maybe plan for earlier meal and separate viewing.

I don't know where I read or heard this, but is there live music at the R&C? I seem to recall something about a Beatles re-enactment type show - my 6 year old is a huge Beatles fan, and she would get such a kick out that.

If you are a drinker, it can be fun. I am not a huge drinker, so I don't care too much for it. If you are looking for a really good place to eat but not concerned with a show or seeing Illuminations (as this is inside) try Ekershus in Norway. I may have spelled that wrong. The buffet for dinner is excellent. I have not done it since 2000 but ate there for the princess breakfast this year.

Great food!

Quick question:

Never been to the Rose & Crown pub but am planning a trip in January. Do they serve shepards pie here? If so, how would you rate it? One person in our party is a huge shepards pie fan and would love if they could get it in the park. Thanks!

They have Cottage Pie - which is shepards pie made with beef rather than lamb. This is only served at lunch - the full lunch menu is on All Ears Net:
