Rose and Crown Pub???

I'm beginning to prepare for my November vacation to Disney and am thinking of eating at the Rose and Crown Pub. I've read a lot of reviews and they are very mixed. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. Also, we (party of 6), were hoping to dine outside to watch Illuminations. Can you wait for an outside table? I have read in some reviews that they were not allowing people to wait for an outside table anymore. If you have waited in the past, about how long is the wait? I know that in the past we have waited for 30 minutes (with PS) at Le Celler for ANY table. What time would you make the PS for 6 people? I was thinking 7:45????

Now, I'm a bit confused...
The opportunities you have to watch Illuminations while you eat are Rose and Crown, the two French restaurants (if you get near a window), or Cantina de San Angel (Mexico) which is taco/burrito kind of fare (although sitting outside with a Dos Equis or Margarita is fine! Then there is the Tangierine Grill at Morocco for a Shawarma Sandwich. Otherwise its a hot dog, turkey leg or popcorn and you can enjoy the show from wherever.

The German buffet is decent with a fair show (but it is indoors), hence Barnums reference

So with that said, Rose and Crown is the best food with outdoor seating, or maybe plan for earlier meal and separate viewing.

OK, please let me clarify my post. I was pressed for time and didn't make things clear last night. My husbands parents will be with us and they have never seen Illuminations. We will be spending only 1 evening at Epcot and want to have a nice dinner AND have a good view of Illuminations. I have found, through much trial and error, a wonderful place near Germany to watch the show. So, my thoughts were to have an earlier dinner, around 6:30, then be close by to my favorite viewing area. I will try to be clearer in the future. :animwink:

They do a really good job, enjoy!
The music is great. We were walking through the British Pavilion and thought we heard the Beatles. We walked to the back, and there they were! It was so cool... and weird. I just couldn't believe I was standing there watching the Beatles live!

We have eaten at Rose & Crown a couple of times. I think it is good food. I've had the Cottage Pie and the Fish & Chips. The smashed potatoes are really, really good. In fact, that's all my kids ordered the last time we were there! :slurp:

Don't want to burst your bubble, but, they really are not the Beatles. They are good, but, definitely NOT the Beatles.

try Ekershus in Norway. I may have spelled that wrong. The buffet for dinner is excellent. I have not done it since 2000 but ate there for the princess breakfast this year.Great food!

Does the breakfast feature any traditional Norwegian fare? I've never bothered to eat any meal there as they seemed to have alot of "unappetizing" stuff. Then again I haven't looked at a menu in YEARS :D

There's a reason why England is more renowned for it's Disney web site owners than it's cuisine. :D :D :D
On behalf of British quisine (Enland only covers one of four countries that make up the UK.) I apologise that we can't get our dishes to taste band enough for a palette unwilling to try anything more adventurous than a flavour free burger with plastic cheese. :p

For the breakfast it is eggs, bacon and sausage. Tons of yummy pastries too. I can't remember the rest just that I ate a tone of pastries as my wife watched me with those eyes that say "slow the hell down"...

The dinner which is a hot and cold buffet might sound scary to someone who is not adventurous but my wife who is not did enjoy it. Lots of seafood, cheeses, meats, etc. I do recommend it highly.

I love spicy food so I was concerned it might be too bland but it is excellent!

Couldn't agree with you more Barnum! As for fish 'n chips, I've never managed to find any outside of the UK that satisfies me like the stuff at home, even the stuff that purports to be "British!"

Pam Brody is one of the reasons that we go to the R&C every time we go to EPCOT - it's (IMHO) rare to find traditions like that still going on in the UK.

Next Trip I'll be old enough to drink in FL so may be tempted to spend a bit longer in there :D

That's it, I just called my Mom and asked her to make me a mince pie, OR fritters OR a dumpling.

Can't get that good SCOTTISH food in the Rose & Crown Pub. :slurp:

Good to know. The wife and I are not picky. But when I think of Norwegian food I think of whitefish and all sorts of strange seafood concoctions :D

If you can find me one non Brit to validate the excellencey of British Cusine, I'm all ears. :D

American cuisine is really a hodge podge of different countries and combinations. Burgers and fries mainly are a thing of the by-gone era that is associated with America. Not to say they don't eat them nowadays, much to the contrary. Just that we didn't invent the hamburger or the fries.

Next time I'm in Manhatten, I'll be on the lookout for the English restuarants among the sea of Italian, Mexican & Asian restuarants.

Don't get me wrong, I love you Brits (have them as neighbors on each side of me) & you disdain the French as much as I do.

No it really is much more. If you were dissapointed I would be suprised. My wife is the most picky eater I know and she enjoyed it. Growing up her extent of seafood was Mrs. Paul's fishsticks which she would throw out the window when nobody was looking.

If you have a chance give it a try. For the price (about $23.00 an adult) you get a ton of food. It is a buffet so you get your apps. dinner and desert for that price. Well worth it. God I am starving now...

LOL, I happen to like the food at the R&C. I will say, however, that the bangers and mash threw me. I was expecting breakfast sausage. I did like it after the initial shock. :)

Hmmm, sounds like the stuff I ate at my grandmother's house, she was from Nova Scotia, Canada. Love mince pie, but, only with meat in the minced part.
The crap they sell in the store is not worth my time.

I am just grateful they did not bring along one thing from Scotland and that would be Hagis. Sounds nasty. ;)
I do not disdain the French, the citizens are the victum of the politics.
