thanks, where else can you get a good view of illuminations while eating? always good to have a backup plan.

The only real options to sit down and eat and watch ROE are The new Hacienda De San Angel or pick out a spot at the new outside seating area in the Cantina De San Angel:wave:

You can of course sit in the beer garden at the Rose and Crown, or lower deck area between the pub and bridge to France while eating the amazing fish and chips at the stall by the pub.

Yep LOVE the fish n chips and yes you can sit here too but, you will have to stake out the spot a couple of hours in advance, book an adr for RnC instead or there is a spot at the railing near the snow white meet n greet that has a great view and is virtually deserted til bwt half 8 :sohappy:

Its our fave spot to watch ROE:sohappy:

our R&C dining experience was not a positive one... we were seated inside in a crowded table near the bar - we could not even hear ourselves think- and when our server came and found out we were on the "free dining plan" we only saw him once, to take our drink and food order, we definitely felt slighted and had to ask other servers for drink refills... not going back...

We were down for our honeymoon in August and we walked past the lower deck area between R&C and France and it was roped off. We asked the CM's if you had to reserve that area ahead of time now and they told us yes, there is a fee to watch Illuminations from there. Being it was our honeymoon they were incredibly awesome and gave us a ticket :sohappy:. I don't know if that is an all of the time thing or not, but it was only us and about 30 other people on the deck (so great for photos and viewing) not sure if I would pay for it but great for people who do not want to wait for prime seating in advance. Back to R&C we love it there! It does get crowded but it is worth the wait for a drink because you can enjoy the atmosphere and strike up a conversation with other guests! I can see how it would be loud eating in the dining room but it is a pub and that should be expected.

Had a wonderful waterside table on our last visit, during which dw and I were visited by a squirrel that lacked an appropriate fear of humans. He scampered up my chair and on to the table! Apparently he really fancied some shepherd's pie.

The cast members weren't really too surprised by this occurrence. They knew the particular squirrel and had even named him.

We have had the same experience outside but with seagulls. They just sit there waiting for somebody to get up and leave. If the staff does not clear the tables fast enough they hop right on the tables. We had a seagull feeding frenzy at the table next to us last time we ate outside there. My wife and daughter were terrified and we were the last table and were trapped and could not even try to leave because they were all flopping around blocking our way. Took quite a while for somebody to come out and take care of it.

We no longer eat outside there....

On the other side though, for years it was always one of our must eat at places every trip. Have not eaten there the last couple of times but not because of anything bad, just opting to try some new places as there are so many good ones to have and only so many meals.

We do stop by and sit on a bench nearby every trip and have a drink. I get a Strongbow and my Wife a Woodpecker. Love it!

One last positive story and one of my favorite moments at WDW with my daughter kids. When my oldest daughter was 6 we ate at R&C for a late dinner. A staff member came over to talk to my daughter and said that Mickey called and was stuck on the monorail and asked if she would start Illuminations for him. She of course said yes. So he said he would come back when the time came. When it did he came over and took us outside to the outside dining area and had her stand up on a tall chair. He gave her one of those multi-colored lightsabers and had her close her eyes and wish for Illuminations to start and she did. Illuminations kicked off and she was the happiest kid in the world. She still talks about it nearly 4 years later.

A wonderful experience!

R&C is great. I have strong Irish and English bloodlines, and feel "at home" in that entire pavilion, even though I've never actually been to the UK.

Anyway, I've only eaten the Cottage Pie, and loved it. Best variation I've had, but the others were mostly my own pathetic creations, and a few from some local Irish Pubs here in town that feel much more branded than authentic.

Service was fantastic, but I had to giggle (and fake naivety) when he explained the different beers in the Imperial Sampler to me as if they were completely absent in the States. I could have differentiated these common beers (that I drink all the time, sans Strongbow) from aroma alone. I just ordered them up because for the price, is the best beer-bang-for-the-buck at the WS.

Gotta have this next time :slurp:

Have they replaced the harp with stella in this too??

I can tell you....went to Rose and Crown on my december 08 trip.it was my first time at Epcot. got a tip from a friend to get adrs for Illuminations time.

After an LONG day...met my inlaws and made our way over to R&C.we were there a good 30 mins. early.

Walked over to the kiosk and was told there was a problem with the reservations system....They were working on it and wouls seat us a.s.a.p.

8 really hungry people gave me a funny look when i told them wed have to wait a little longer.

Walked over and got a bunch of Bass/guniness on tap and went to watch the Beatle band...My wife was getting upset because she has hypoglycemia and can have a sugar crash .not good.

Got to our seat 40 mins late.....Got seat right on the Patio up against the railing....The waiter was fantastic Young guy from Ireland named jarrod I think. He made some suggestions and we trusted him enough to get what he thought we might like....

My kids sat at the next table with grandman and grandpa Leaving my wife and I to have a Nice meal alone.

The Meal was without doubt the best meal Ive ever eaten at Disney and possibly the best meal Ive eaten in my life...........

Illuminations is awe inspiring and we had the best seats in the house....

Even with the goof up It was my best Wdw dining experience ever.

My mother in law and father in law thanked me for getting the reservations and really loved it. Everyone loved the food and the Show.

Things like this make Rose and Crown Great!!

Whether its just for a few pints to cool down from the florida sun or an evening meal combined with illuminations it really offers so much more than many places in wdw :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

New Years at RnC

First of all, we love the Rose and Crown. Have for years. Visit every trip at least once. If it is just DW and I, we spend an afternoon at the bar, if DD is along we will have dinner there and watch Illuminations. Many great experiences with Carl and other staff as well. I spent time as a youth living in Aberdeen, Scotland and I always am on the search for folks to talk Scottish Football with!

Anyway, to the story... New Years Eve this past year (ringing in 2010). Of course, we (DW, DD - age 5, and I) arrive at Epcot about an hour before opening. To our great satisfaction, we were able to do quite a few attractions before things got crazy at noon. So, right about 2pm, we set up a base of operations at the Rose and Crown Pub. Because of the crowds, they had removed all the chairs and tables, so the three of us grabbed a spot on the floor in the corner and set up shop. DW and I had some adult drinks, DD had some juices. Occasionally one parent and DD would go use an FP or just see how packed the paths were. Staff was great. Customers were great. We made friends with quite a few of the LSU and Penn State fans in town for a bowl game. Since my wife is a bartender, we treat our bartenders well and they did the same for us. It was a blast just hanging out there for the afternoon.

OOPS, DW just reminded me! At some point in the afternoon, I asked a bartender if I could buy one of the Tinkerbell lights for my DDs Sprite. He said they came with the specialty kids drinks, but low and behold, there was a Tink (free of charge) on her next Sprite!

Had a table reserved for 7:30pm and were seated inside. Enjoyed our meal quite a bit (I am a sucker for any fish and chips, much less a quality one). DD loves the make-your-own sundae there. Post meal, out to the PACKED viewing area. We were toward the back of things and I had DD on shoulders. DW and I couldn't see too well, but regardless at the end of the NYE tag, we were all crying.

Nothing remarkable, just a great day and all centered around the RnC. It was a bummer that Carl took NYE off, though - DD would have loved his tricks!

This summer, we didn't manage to fit it in to our visit, and I think that is why we have planned a long weekend in November visit!!

Question about Rose and Crown... if I wanted to go there one afternoon or evening, can I go hang out at the bar without them knowing ahead? I keep seeing people talking about sitting at the bar but I am not sure if I could show up and walk in there.
