Rooms for two.

My partner and I are considering going to WDW towards the end of next year ’03 or beginning of the year after ’04. I was doing some pricing up in the travel brochures and noticed how a couple would get stung by the under occupancy fees as all rooms at WDW seem to be for families. Does WDW offer rooms with just a double/king size bed in them, in any resort?

Cheers

My wife and I stayed at POFQ early this month. The room was spacious and the bed was huge. No extra fees, either.

Question for KingdomKonsultant. Can you deal with bookings and flights from the UK?

Once again guys.

THANKS

I flew with Britannia in 2001 they were every bit as good as Virgin, unfortunately they only fly to Sanford now which is too far away for my liking. Virgin offer discounts to various professions, its always worth being cheeky you may get 10% off.

As for the codes, i used one this year and got POR for $80 a night no probs ecept the CM taking my reservation got my name and address wrong, luckily they were able to track my res by using my credit card info, and it was all sorted by the time we went.

Next summer ive booked through the Disney Club, and the CM has assured me they will let me "update" my reservations if a better rate comes along. The CM spent a long time with me was she trying to sell? probably cause ive gone to a more expensive resort, BUT I think now I have made the right choice and my kids are excited more than ever.

I have gone out and got some travel brochures today, crikey, the book price for WDW holidays seem so expensive. I think booking everything separately would be better, a nice scheduled flight or fly-drive - Virgin or BA. (For a 9 hour flight, charter flights are not nice, I have flown twice to Orlando on charter!!) Then to book a room through WDW CRO. If/When we go it will be off-season, so hopefully better discounts. I have seen the mousesavers website, which seems very helpful has anyone used the codes before? Hey DJ or Happy Snapper, would anyone be kind enough to translate pounds into dollars for me? I reread the beginning of this post. I got the idea that the travel agent was fleecing you, but I really cant compare without a translation. I dont need exactly obviously, just a round about figure. Thanks!! Belle

That is just so WRONG! They are making a commission (sp?) on the booking from Disney, they should not charge you for booking the trip on top of it.

Hey Kingdom, I just did the math, for a trip to the Carribean Beach from May 1-May14th including airfare and Ultimate Park hopper tix, they are looking at $2856.08 in American Dollars!!! YIKES!!! I was trying to run a room on Disney's computer ressie system just to do a comparison, but their computer wasnt co operating very much. Wanna give it a shot??
Also DJ, May is NOT considered a Value level time of the year to go. They are January3- February 12 or so,Last week of August thru all of September, and most of November thru December just before the holidays. Those are the least expensive times of the year to go. May however is alovely time to go and is considered a Regular pricing time which is only one up from the Value seasons. as I said in a previous post I got a room at a moderate level resort for $110 and I opted for a water view(which was lovely and well worth the extra $10 a night at Riverside) in October. This is the same pricing structure as May.

It was originally target at the European package holiday market. Everything used to be included just choose your type of board, full half or room only. Now you have to watch because the price your quoted may no longer include airport transfers, in some places this could involve a journey of several hours, in flight meals pay for cr@pp food, and the everpresent occupancy supplement.
oh and the biggest con of all unless your flying from a London airport your price will be diffrent anyway because of regional airport charges, which is strange as i company runs all of the UKs main airports.

My holiday would be £3k more if I just paid the full Virgin price!!!

Oh and I just remembered some travel agents now add a 2% handling fee for using plastic.

Hey fellow wdwmagic members. Once again, thank you for all your kind help.

A few pointers.

Belle: In my second post I mentioned the month of May as a completely random example, I didn’t really think about what season it was. It was just to give people an idea of the pricing strategy.

http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html is a great website where you can convert currency. From GBP to US Dollars etc, hope that helps our little "currency barrier"

Happy snapper: you thought Britannia were as good as Virgin. Well either Britannia have improved or Virgin has got worse. I have flown with both Virgin '96 and Britannia '97, Virgins standards far exceed Britannia’s. But, things change. I just don’t like the fact Britannia (and many other airlines especially charter) put in an extra seat taking the original 2-3-2 Boeing 767 configuration to a charter 2-4-2 configuration…. If that makes sense. The price difference between a charter fly-drive to a Virgin one isn’t that different either.

Talking of Driving us Brits have to pay an awful lot to hire a car too…. Well the actual car hire is cheap, in fact included in most package holidays, our insurances are just so expensive, and when you arrive in Sanford or Orlando International after a 9 hour flight, the car hire people really know how to sell the top price insurance too.

I really appreciate all the help that has been offered. This is a really cool discussion, lets hope it lasts a bit longer. I also hope other people have found it interesting too other than myself. When we have decided on possible dates, budget etc, I’ll post them and we can all have fun finding the best deals. That sounds really cheeky, but we will all be able to learn how to save.

not cheeky at all just smart!!! I myself always do look for the best deals available. That was my secret to going 4 times in the year 2002!! And you are correct, here is to hoping that we all learn how to save a few dollars, pounds or whatever currency you happen to be dealing in!!! I dont believe in foolishly wasitng money on Travel Agents when not needed. I helped two of the young ladies that I work with when they decided they wanted to go. Just with a little guidance I was able to save them about $500 or so on thier trip. They were VERY happy about that. The Travel Agent wasnt!! Oh well...... Belle:p :p :p

That is exactly what I always try to do also. I don't care if I make a lot on a commission or not, it's the fact that I made someone happy by saving them money is what really counts.

I'd be careful with the length-of-stay passes...any time we've been offered them as part of a package, they've proven to be a lot more expensive in the long run. Multi-day passes that don't have an expiration date have always been a better bargain for us. With the length-of-stay passes, once your vacation is over, your pass is history, too. I realize you're coming from overseas, and may not be interested in annual passes, but check out the per diem rate you're actually paying for each type of pass!:)

I think you will notice all the little cuts in quality, small things like the type of ice creams, headphones being reused, generally the things that seperated Virgin from the others. Also in 2000 our flight had rude staff, ran out of water, and had to land at Stanstead on the way back cause it ran low in fuel. This year was much better apart from the cuts I mentioned.
As for Britannia, the seats seemed to have more leg roombut we were sat in the 2s, the service was good, and the flight was generally ok. Maybe I was just lucky.
Either way were going with virgin next year because of the price. Package holidays are a rip off if you fly drive with kids, and the worse thing is that most travel agents havnt a clue what their talking about when it comes to Florida.

Hey maybe thats what I should do when i finish in Sep:D
