Room Request Strategie, Help?!?!?

Hi there!
Our first stay in a Deluxe is fast approaching! :ROFLOL:Only three weeks away! (Beach Club May 5th-13th!)
Here's my big problem. Is there some trick to getting a room request filled? Any suggestions? Am I more likely to get my request if I say something general like "Direct Lagoon View, Fourth Floor with a Full Balcony" or if I say "I'd like to request room 4561, please?"
I know nothing is guaranteed but honestly the view from our room and the full balcony are SUCH a big deal for us since this is the WHOLE reason we picked this Hotel(that and SAB:animwink:)
Any help?!?!?

You're correct in saying that nothing is guaranteed.

The allocation of a room for you and your party is based entitrely on availability at check in. If you want "room 4561" then ask for it - but if the party in there doesn't check out for another three days then you're stumped.
If you want "Direct Lagoon View, Fourth Floor with a Full Balcony" then you have more chance of that being granted as there are more rooms that meet your requirement.
Send your fax and be as general as you can with your requirement.

Good Luck

First of all call the Disney reservation center (the number you call to reserve rooms) and make your requests ASAP if you have not done so already. Make your requests general in nature and in order of importance. ie Direct lagoon view, highest floor possible. If you request something too specific such as room 4261 then they will not know what to do if it is not available. For all they know you chose room 4261 because it was near the elevator. Also make sure that what you are requesting is not a specific room category that you are not booked under. ie You have a standard room booked at PORS and you request a king bed. That request is not possible because king beds are a specific room category. Be flexible. Let the CM that is checking you in know what you were looking for when you made your requests and let them know that you do not mind checking in later to get what you wanted. Lastly do not waste your time with calling or faxing the resort directly. All room requests must come through the reservation center. If you call the resort you will be transferred to the reservation center if you fax the resort the fax will hit the trash.

One special note. If you make any changes to your reservation before arrival (ie adding or subtracting days) have the CM read your requests back to you. Special requests do not always follow a reservation modification.

It also doesn't hurt to call the resort directly 4 or 5 days before you arrive, and ask for the room assignment desk, especially if you have special needs. I was able to get the longhouse at the Polynesian that I wanted. The time before I just had it noted on my reservation, and I was given a room far from the Main Building, and since I have problems walking, it was not acceptable for me. It took a while but the front desk did get us a room nearer, but still not where I would have preferred.

Just another thought - we love the Beach Club, and the lagoon view rooms on the ground floor open onto small patios with table and 2 chairs. Breakfast here - freshly made yogurt parfait and pastries from the BC Marketplace - (with ducks and squirrels begging for crumbs) is lovely.

Just an FYI, full balconies are not the norm at the BC. The last time we stayed we wound up having to move because the first room we got did not have the full balcony. So if that is really important I would go with "Full balcony, high floor, Lagoon view (if that's what you're paying for)." Have a great time!

ps. YC has full balconies:)

When we have a special request, first I state it when I make our reservation. Then, about 5 days before we arrive, I make up a "cutesy" fax, with Disney clip art, catchy writing, and "asking" for what we want. If you put it like you're "demanding" something, you definitely won't get it. But if you're polite about it, they do work with it. Good luck!

Master Yoda is absolutely correct, but if you booked through a travel agent all room requests MUST go through them, not through Reservations. Best of luck getting your heart's desire!! Belle

When you call a Disney resort "directly" you are actually getting a call center that handles your calls - it is extremely difficult to get past them to actually speak to someone at the resort.

I understand that, but I explained my situation about a medical issue, and they connected me with the Poly's room assignment desk.

Technically, all agents are able to add requests for room location, etc to a reservation based on a guest call. Most do not refering them back to the travel agent.

I'm not saying you didn't have a legitimate medical issue, but lots of people could have "medical issues".

The actual front desk and ops departments aren't staffed enough to handle phone calls and requests.

Yes - definitely call ASAP to make your request. We've done it many times (including asking for a specific room #) and never had a problem getting what we wanted.

I hope this is the case for my upcoming trip.. I requested when we made the original reservations and the request is stated on our confirmation email. I did request a specific building and then a specific room.. As long as I get the building we want I'll be happy though.. Good luck to the OP. As other people have stated, call ASAP.

I actually worked room assignment desk at All Star Music, we got calls all the time from guests who would be checking in to request specific areas.
