Room only 2011 Question

I've booked my room only in March for my Jan 2011 trip and right now I'm just dreading the price of my room since it's at a rack rate as of now until they lower it in August..

What I wanted to know is Will I be getting an email about the price change for my room when they are announced or will it go down automaticly when I check the My Disney Vacation Reservation?

If you book room only, you pay the current rack rate for one night as your deposit. When they announce the new rates in August for 2011, they're more likely than not to go up, not down. I'm not sure what you mean here...

If you're expecting General Public discounts to be announced in August, you'll have to call and ask that the discount be applied to your current reservation, they won't do so automatically. If you book through a Disney-knowledgeable Travel Agent [Kingdom Konsultants are a sponsor here and there are others], they'll often "automagically" apply any that you're eligible for without you calling.

I'm sorry I should clarify here..I have an 11 night stay for a preffered room at Pop and I did pay for the first night and the other 10 nights right now are the same price as the first night. I wasn't sure if it changes since I'm there on weekedays and weekends.

Ah... Gotcha.

Yes, I think the rates change on Friday and Saturday nights. My August booking at All Star Sports increases by $7 for those nights.

You don't have that quite right.

When you book for the next year before the next year's rates are announced, the deposit you pay is the highest nightly rate for the current year, meaning you are charged the rate for the week of Christmas/New Year's. THAT rate is so high, compared with most of the rest of that year, that when the next year's rates are announced, the nightly rate you will be paying for the following year almost definitely WILL be lower than that very high holiday rate (unless of course you are booking your stay for that Christmas week).

Let's look at an example. For 2010, the most expensive nightly rate for the least expensive room at Polynesian is $610, for December 25-31. If in July 2010 you book a room-only reservation for the least expensive room at Polynesian for a "regular" season weekday, you will pay $610 for your deposit; and then when the 2011 rates ere announced your room will probably be priced around $450 (it's $425 for this year). This means that you have already paid $160 towards the rest of your stay ($450 + $160 = $610).

Yep, when next year's rates aren't yet released your deposit is based on the highest (holiday) rate for the current year. When I made our reservations for AKL last year my deposit on a savanna view room was like $600 and my stay was booked in January. When the new rates were released I received a letter/statement in the mail with the adjustments reflected. My deposit ended up covering like 2 nights or almost 2 nights vs. just the 1.

To the OP, I didn't get an email. I got a statement in the ol' snail mail. When the new rates were released I looked them up so I knew what my updated nightly rate was before the statement arrived. That's just the form of communication DTC used when they contacted me about it.

We just booked our room last night and are in the same situation. CleveRocks has it right that they definitely charge you the highest possible rate from 2010. Our 7 night stay for January 2011 averaged out to $550 per night at the Yacht Club when a week at the same time in 2010 was never higher than $360 per night. Once they 2011 rates come in next month you just call back and can book your package or settle the room only if you prefer and the total amount should be much lower.
