Rockwork falls off Matterhorn onto track - Ride partially closed

I wonder if the rocks fell near “Dolly’s Drop.” It could be haunted. Matterhorn is currently the most dangerous ride at DL claiming two fatalities. It was previously tied with the Peoplemover

I just called a friend who used to work on the Matterhorn. He hadn't heard about the avalanche. The Matterhorn mountain is wood with lathe and plaster. The coaster is steel on big steel pilings. He would go inch by inch on the inside, every September, looking for water leaks. He would then have to put on lederhosen and go over the outside on a rope, looking for cracks. They would seal and replaster any leaks. I asked him if they did pull tests or ultrasound to make sure the concrete hadn't pulled away from the wood. He said it wasn't a concern years ago when he worked there.

HM anniversary brought out all the Bats Day people, so I went to celebrate the 2 day anniversary of the Matterhorn hole instead. It's clearly visible as you approach on the wide walkway from the hub. I didn't even need to look for it.

A chunk of rockwork fell off the Matterhorn on Thursday, and half the ride has been closed. Here's the initial media story in the OC Register, but we can update this thread as it evolves. https://www.ocregister.com/2019/08/...partial-closure-of-disneyland-roller-coaster/

What a summer Disneyland is having! When will the curse be lifted?
That. Is. A. Mega. Oof.
Press F to pay respects.
I think that is horrible but I think this might warn Disney that they should completely rebuild the ride again. I think they did it back in the early 2010’s but not to the mountain or track so maybe a whole rebuilt will be better. Maybe make it have more capacity and have one track running with a proper train of not so bob sleds would do.
The ride does need a refurb, proper but I think that should go with the TL/FL overhaul as it is on the border of both of those lands. If TL closes with Finding Nemo, then Matterhorn might get a refurb.
That is speculation but they might just leave it and risk having something worse happen.

Edit: The base ride will stay, they really need a proper refurb but will mainly stay the same. You must realize how much it is in need of one. Not my fault I think it should get one.

That's such terrible art design. Who are these "artists" at Disney these days?
Don’t give Disney ideas.
Is the mountain up to earthquake safety codes?
Possibly so,
But one day, no.
It is an old structure built over five decades ago and it is a concertante structure who has seen damage to the info structure on the inside from the skyliner. The safety one day must be fixed and maybe Disney has had the idea, I want them to just remake it, no IP’s as this ride is a classic.

It should maybe still have the wildness and bumpiness to it and maybe a few more stuff added but the mountain is what needs fixing, not the ride.
