Robot Ruckus

In 2011 Buy N Large Incorporated is proud to debut the revolutionary new automation that will enhance the satisfaction and ease of consumer life. Showcasing the new robot at their newly opened sector 12 level 17 EarthV2 showroom located in Orlando Floridia, BNL PR Managers and Corporate Engineers are anxious to introduce the latest addition to their artificial intelligence line.

John Holzted, head robotic engineer of BNLSecE2, describes the product as the latest step in BnLs dynamic expansion to provide supreme effortlessness to its human community.

Guests are given a five minute overview of Buy N Large product and fiscal profit outlooks for the next quarter before being escorted by the new promotions director, Wall•e, to transportation pods for a special preview of the newest addition to BnLs robotic family. While accompanying guests, Wall•e accidentally disrupts communication between the transformation pods and BnLs computer mainframe. Chaos ensues sending guests on an out-of-this-world malfunctioning robotic adventure.

Glad someone thinks so....it's just a pitch for an attraction. I've begun developing concept boards, attraction location, and outer attraction facade and track layout for the idea. I'm currently working on the attraction storyboards that show what the ride is based on. Lets just say that my wall-e attraction is very much like an assembly line in a car factory (big hint).

Actually I started working on this concept about 5 months ago in my down time. My boards are nothing fabulous....just for fun.

My location for the attraction is just a launching point, this attraction could go anywhere. Some of you may raise your nose to the fact I placed it in tomorrowland but if any pixar character should go in tomorrowland it's Wall•e! This attraction could work well at Epcot and DHS as well. When I think of attractions I try to make them more marketable by opening them up to other parks therefore not narrowing my concept. If you don't narrow yourself to one local then there's a better chance of it actually coming to fruition.

This attraction could work for any of the Kingdoms across the globe and the studios, both Paris and Orlando.

First image is of the story/elevator pitch for my concept (which was posted above).

Second image is of the location within Tomorrowland where the attraction would be at along with two rough sketches of the facade of the attraction and 2 inspiration images.

Third image is of the building facade fully rendered with the retro Wall-e posters that will be outside the attraction (think of the attraction posters as you enter the Magic Kingdom and how they make you get excited about what you're going to experience within the park).

Fourth image is of 3 buildings I looked at for inspiration for the facade (2 of the 3 where already designed by Imagineers so they can relate easily to the shapes and forms I want to work with).

Next image is a rough layout of the attraction building broken up into sections (you can see the snake-like track for the attraction).

The last image is a concept for interactive queue gaming if Disney went with the Magical Connection Nintendo DS Lite system and a rough mock up of the box of the game.

Note: This is all for fun, and this art is included in my personal portfolio, thus why I'm making the main image so small and the watermarks. Sorry I have to protect my ideas. :)

I really like this. I think it would be a perfect fit for DHS.

Yes, but almost anything "fits" in DHS! If a Wall-E attraction is coming, I hope it's put in Tomorrowland. Wouldn't it be nice if there were attractions in TL that were actually set in the future? Unlike MILF, SGE, etc.

Yep...Even though it's Pixar I love the idea. And they could make good use of the AA right outside!

Oh, I just realized that you have it placed where the CoP is now...

Just a suggestion, but have you tried a different location(s)? :)

thanks for the feedback folks...

okay so here's the 411. Yes i do have it replacing CoP. Sorry but that's where I would put it if I had free reign....i'm not saying let's get rid of the CoP, it could be moved to another local. I just know that ride is really loosing steam and only disney fanatics want it to stay. It's a toss up for me. I just know my attraction would bring in more traffic. Trust!

I seem to always design attractions for the Magic Kingdom first, then I try to see where else they could fit, yes it would work brilliantly at DHS and Epcot too.

No, I will not be presenting this to WDI, WDI does not take unsolicited ideas which means they wouldn't even consider the idea unless I worked there. Granted I have freelanced for them and the Imagineers who I've worked with have all seen this stuff on my online portfolio so in the end they aren't oblivious to my ideas and designs.

I'm using basic adobe CS3 (photoshop and illustrator) that's it. I have a studio minor with an emphasis in graphic design so i tend to stick with what I know and plus it.

I have a lot more to do, I actually have the completed attraction in rough sketches and soon I will be flushing them out and creating presentation storyboards, scene by scene of the attraction in photo shop and illustrator.

I wish I had more time to work on it but alas I do have a day job and a night job depending on my freelance gigs.

I also I started a tron attraction with a friend of mine about 4 years ago and as soon as I complete Robot Ruckus I'll be working on that again seeing how the new script to Tron is almost completed and Disney will be making a new feature motion picture.

I usually tend to only work with existing Disney property. Now I have also started a new concept for something not related to Disney at all. I've begun designing an indoor waterpark using Warner Brothers property...to be exact the Goonies. I've done 2 concept boards for that. So you see I have tons of ideas floating around in my head and it's hard to just stick with one, I'm afraid if I don't get them down in some fashion I'll forget about them. Not to mention I need to show I can use other property than disney when thinking like an Imagineer (something one of my Imagineer friends told me I should do for my portfolio to show that I understand thematic design).

True, but I am getting a little tired of having so many character based attractions in TL.

I agree about character based attraction in places where they shouldn't be. I heard at one time about an Imagineering Rule, where the only place Disney Character based attractions could be located at was in Fantasyland.

Characters have now been added to every land so we're just going to have to deal with it. They're in Adventureland, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland. We just have to suck it up and get over it.

I don't mind really as long as the attractions are good. So far it's slim, only Buzz is really worthy, all the other attractions are lame i.e. Stitch and Aladdin's carpet ride (only reason I hate this attraction is because of the foot path, it's so crowded over their now). I do detest the new tiki room, it's so 90's it hurts. Anyway I'm not getting into that sort of discussion here.

As your comment are geared towards my idea and my location I can understand your argument. But as of now it's gonna stay in TL. I want Orlando's magic kingdom to be huge, with more attractions than other Kingdoms...what can i say, I'm a size queen. :)

I think WALL*E is fine in Tomorrowland as long as you kick out MiLF. Joking, your ride, put it where you want boss. I'm sure it would be great. Question for you though, what will the facade look like?

So here's the latest concept board for Robot Ruckus.

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/7821/47ym5.jpg

Yes the cat is outta the bag on my idea. So yeah it's nothing new, the technology is something that WDI has been trying to workout for sometime now.

I think the idea of using the Kuka robocoaster fits a lot better with Wall-e. After all, Kuka is a robot.

Now the basic track structure will take guests through a BnL production assembly line of various robots which will lend to different location/scenes in the show. Guests along with Wall•e will encounter EVE, MO and all the other outcast robot friends from the feature and even introduce some new pals (Rich•e).

I'm tossing around the idea of actually letting guests be able to program their ride vehicle so that no ride on Robot Ruckus is ever the same. I'm not sure at the moment how that will help the flow of guests so I'm working on ways to really make it work. I know guests will think they're picking a specific tour in the BnL factory but instead they'll be really programming system.

The attraction will start off normal where guests will have no inclination that the attraction is really a family coaster or that the vehicle can move in all sorts of ways. That comes in later....of course when during the peak of the attraction/story.

I hope to do some illustrations of guests on the attraction and also room/scene layouts for the different locations guests will be taken through.

I know that WDI has been toying around with an attraction based on the Incredibles using the Kuka robot arm but seeing how they don't have the rights yet, I'm hoping that Wall•e will outshine the Incredibles (which I believe it will) and the suits will come a running for a Wall•e attraction, more than an Incredibles attraction. And if Wall•e does do well at the box office, how could the Kuka company resist turning down an attraction using their robotic systems for an attraction based on a popular robotic film? The key word here is ROBOT, its wins in all arguments.

anyway more to come. . .

By they way, why doesn't anyone else actually take their ideas beyond the copy/editorial part? I know from time to time i see a few Imagineers-in-training post some art, but I would like to see more actually do it. It's the best way to "plus" yourself and build your portfolio.
