RnRC New Theme Discussion

If RnRC gets a new band, I think it might also improve the experience if they updated the theming of the coaster segment to match the WDSP version more. Instead of this version's "cardboard cutouts" that don't maintain an immersive environment/experience, the Paris version drops the "limo"/"city" pretense and instead "auto themes" (to use a term from David Younger's "Theme Park Design") the attraction to be a coaster that's co-created by the band (with really cool lighting effects). This keeps the experience believable and immersive throughout. Here's a video of the Paris version:

Instead of returning Rock n Roller Coaster why not choose a new band? Van Halen? Kiss? Metallica? But the tone and rhythm of Aerosmith music perfectly fits with the tone and rhythm of the Ride :)
Also if it is already popular then why do they want to retheme it? I thought they learned from that mistake with Guardians?

Whenever the time comes, once the park is up to par and has more than a handful of rides, I'd be happy with a general rock and roll theme. I don't know that they need to limit themselves to one band but then they'd have to re-do the pre-show, etc. I guess then it would require a complete overhaul.

This with fireballs would be an AWESOME Kiss retheme :)

It's a coaster in a park that has next to no rides. Of course it gets long wait times.

It's not a priority of course but who cares if we're discussing a retheme? We know they aren't going to anytime soon and they shouldn't do it anytime soon. The park needs added capacity. It's just a discussion. Doesn't mean it's going to happen. No harm done.

And to be fair, this thread was started by MansionButler84, so clearly they've at least looked at the ride for a re-theme at some point. Not saying I want it *now* but eventually, when the park has more attractions and shows have been replaced, Aerosmith isn't untouchable, they won't be around the ride forever. A re-theme is likely at *some point*

They're not in a Disney owned movie yet, but could a Ghost Rider character appear in Orlando?

You could have one of the Ghost Rider characters (either from the recent tv shows or one that hasn't appeared in a Disney owned movie or tv show yet) towing guests behind them using their car or motorcycle. Or guests could ride in a hoodless stretch version of Ghost Rider's car from the tv shows for some odd reason.

Either way there is a reasonable reason why the recent Ghost Rider character might appear in modern California or why an early version of the Ghost Rider might appear in Los Angeles from several decades ago.

I would guess that Ghost Rider -- pretty much any iteration -- should be okay for Disney to use in WDW. If Dr. Strange is okay despite being in the Defenders with the Hulk, that's pretty much the only argument that would be for Ghost Rider to be excluded from use. That said, I don't see Disney willing to use the character in the parks -- he's too "adult" with the while demon thing and vengeance/hellfire/etc. type concepts.

I've been on both the Paris and Florida one. I think the Florida one is much better in terms of theming, not the other way around.

It fits because the ride literally has you driving down the streets of Los Angeles. Does anyone else think RnRC doesn't belong at DHS, or am I missing something?

People forget this ride opened about the same time as IOA. Disney was panicked about losing the young adults to that park. This was their way to keep somewhat of a grasp on that audience, by adding a hip fun roller coaster. Aerosmith was a big touring rock band at the time. It made sense as the park already involved TV and Movies, why not include music as well? Music is also an integral part of LA, just look at the Capital Records building which is almost as big of a landmark to LA as the Chinese Theater.

There's more colorful lighting so thats nice but honestly thats the extent of it. The story in Florida is a journey across LA. Yes, the "cutouts" look like an afterthought but at least they tell a nice story - you're racing to get to a show. Paris doesn't have much in the way of story.

It's interesting that the two RnRCs have different preshows that were clearly filmed simultaneously. Was the plan always to have two separate themes among the two installations? Or were they just undecided which direction to go in when the preshows were filmed? (For the record, I'll stick with the Florida version, cardboardyness and all.)

I've always been fond of RnRC but both versions have a dated view of the rock'n'roll life. Even the concert lights look dated as heck compared to the wild stage setups that big pop stars are using now.

Yes it was dumb they took so long. But the people responsible for that delay are no longer with the company.

This wasn't a decision born out of being lazy (being unable to come up with new Marvel E-tickets... that's still coming for DL)... nor was it actually all that 'cheap'.

It was done because Staggs was inept and literally did nothing and had nothing in the works on the Marvel portfolio. It was done because Chapek entering 5.5 years post marvel acquisition thought it was ridiculous WDI would take another 5.5 years from his 'go'. That's one of many reasons Vaughn got the heave ho.

There is a reason Rohde, when asked by the media, in what way GoTG broke new ground for them. He responded the timeline.
Bob Iger was at the head of the company. Jay Rasulo, Tom Staggs and Bruce Vaughn were all with the company when Guardians of the Galaxy came out on Blu Ray. There are no excuses.

Having said that. The ride is fun and if and when there's a purpose built Marvel land, it would be a nice part of it. But it doesn't make sense in that park or the area that it's in.

Edit: Sorry, Didn't realize I was responding to something from over a month ago.
