I want to stay at Port Orleans, but unsure if Riverside or French quarter is better. What do people think and why the choice.
Thanks

My wife and I stayed at Riverside in "06..we LOVED it! We want to stay at French Quarter at sometime..it reminded me of when I was a kid living in parts of New Orleans..to a point..bus stops are very good at both..you will not go wrong on either! Enjoy your delima..I am jealous!

You can't go wrong with either one. But, it looks like the majority of people on this site will tell you to go to the French Quarter. Any way, I stayed at the POFQ last Christmas and loved everything about it, never stayed at the POR so I can't help you there. Have a great trip.

I enjoyed POFQ. I spent some time at Riverside and while I haven't stayed there I would be interested in doing so. The big comparison points are:

* POFQ is smaller, easier to get around, only one bus stop, nice pool area.
* POFQ has limited food options, a small quick service area, and a very small gift shop.

* POR has better food options, a large quick service area, a sit down restaurant, a larger pool area, and a large gift shop.
* POR is a considerably larger property to navigate and much more spread out, with several bus stops within the porperty.

Stayed at PORS this past September. The ambience and rooms were nice. The busses were horrible!! One morning we wound up taking a cab to MK because each bus that came was too full to take more than a couple of people and we waited almost an hour for them. Never again will we stay there because of the inconvenience. It's too bad, because it was a nice place, but back to deluxes for us.

We just got back yesterday from POFQ. I would suggest FQ over Riverside only because of the size.
Check out the resort maps and the bus stops and dining location.

FQ is obviously more compact. However, I think that's where the benefits end.

Riverside is themed better, has better (and more) food options, has a better pool, has more recreation, has a better lounge. And the way it's set up isn't as inconvenient as CSR or CBR.

I agree with this post. The compact size is the only benefit. I've stayed at both and I felt that FQ seemed like the forgotten little sibling to Riverside. The food is not as good, the store isn't as good, the theming isn't as good.

Riverside is big, I agree. But it's like 2 seperate lands inside the resort, so it needs to be bigger. Sure you can visit POR while you stay at FQ or just stay at POR in the 1st place. You won't be dissapointed. Have a great time!

One advantage to FQ is you're the first stop on the bus loop so you're always guaranteed to get a seat on the way to the parks and when we were there in June we always had a dedicated bus back to FQ at park closing.

Yes, my wife and I noticed this when we stayed at PO, but we did walk one morning to FQ to have breakfast, due to they serve beignets there only! Yummy! :slurp:

Also is for some reason there is a delay on the buses and there are too many people waiting for a particular bus at FQ, the CM working the bus bays will call for a separate bus to go to Riverside so that the bus that pulls into FQ then becomes a dedicated bus and only picks up at FQ and then will go straight to the park. Also in the mornings, parks like MK have a dedicated bus from FQ.

Do they tend to have a dedicated bus to the park with extended hours?

I don't really know as we only went to MK early hours and MK always had a dedicated bus. We were on a dedicated AK bus in the morning, and it was early hours but we were headed there for a tour so we were a little later than true early hour opening.

Even if you have to share with Riverside, you will always be the first stop, whether being picked up or dropped off, FQ is always the first stop so if the bus fills up at FQ, then it doesn't stop at Riverside. We found that leaving the parks at night, if it was park closing, we always had a dedicated bus just for FQ.
