Riverside or French Quarter

French Quarter is smaller and more compact. If sharing buses with Riverside FQ is first to be picked up and first dropped off.
These are the 2 exact reason why we loved it so much. No matter where your room is you're close to everything. FQ has it's own bus to MK but share with RS for all the other parks and (except one trip back from DHS) were always the first stop in both directions.

We stayed at Riverside last November and loved it. But we were in Alligator Bayou and very close to the main building. Some parts of RS are very far away! So, with that knowledge, no complaints, would love to go back to RS!

never stayed at french quarter but my favourite hotel was always dixie landings (now riverside)...loved the pool, loved the overall setting and loved getting a boat into dtd...

...so despite not having stayed at french quarter (but have spent the day there when my friends stayed), my vote would have to go to my fav hotel of all time: dixie landings (riverside)...

French Quarter all the way!!! Everything is so compact, that you don't have to worry about getting a preferred room by the lobby or bus stop. Every building is close to everything!!! Plus, you share the amenites of Riverside as well.

I would say it depends on what you are looking for. French Quarter is my favorite hotel ever. The pool area is lots of fun as is the waterslide and the jazz/New Orleans theme plays well around the resort. If the swimming area is really important to you, I would go with that one.

I have stayed at the Riverside as well and enjoyed it thoroughly (my mom's favorite hotel). The pool area is ok, but not as fun as Port Orleans. However, I think that Riverside has the better food. They have a big food court, as well as a nice sit down restaurant with delicious breakfast food. If you plan to eat at the hotel a lot, that may be better for you.

I think that the lobby building, including the food court, and the theme is better at Riverside. I actually think that Riverside has one of the best lobby buildings in all of WDW. But we chose to spend the first few days of our trip at French Quarter because of the bus situation and the size of the resort.

French Quarter. My favorite moderate.
Small, quiet, peaceful.....and beignets for breakfast.:slurp:

I second those reasons!!! :)

We have stayed at both and prefer FQ. We walked way too much at Riverside, our rooms were always far to the pool, the front etc. FQ is the best!

Both are awesome.
These are also my favorite moderate resort.
I love how the french quarter looks, but riverside is closer to the better food court.

Walking around both resorts in the evening is always a beautiful thing to do. They are both attached by walkways and the scenery is awesome.
You can even go by horse drawn carriage.
Or ride around in the mouse boats :)

French Quarters pool is more entertaining also.

While there are 4 bus stops at Riverside, the compact size at FQ makes it the better choice for me especially at the end of the night when walking back to your room after a long day at the parks. You just don't have that far to walk for anything at FQ. Love the New Orleans feel of the resort, beignets for breakfast and just the overall intimate size of the resort. My favorite moderate.

POR...The setting is just tranquil. Old Man Island is fun and Boatwrights has great food we loved the carriage rides thru the resort and DTD was just a short boat ride away. Shawn

I could not agree more! We stayed in Building 5, in the rear of the building on the second floor. We had a river view too. We loved the room, setting and location to the rest of the World. It's our favorite resort when visiting Disney. :sohappy:

I have stayed at both and I must say that French Quarter is my absolute favorite wdw resort. It is much smaller than POR, so no matter where your room is it is close to the pool, foodcourt, bus stop, and boat to DTD.

When we stayed at Riverside, we had what felt like a mile long walk from our room in Building 24 Alligator Bayou to the main building. Last year I stayed at FQ for the 1st time and was in Bldg #1, corner, first floor room and it was perfect!! I love both resorts but I will be staying at FQ from here on out. The whole week we were there, FQ only shared a bus with Riverside once and that was going to Epcot at night. The rest of the time we had our own busses everywhere.

Riverside has a bigger giftshop than FQ. The foodcourt at FQ was much easier to get around, and it was a lot less crowded than POR...we never had to wait long for anything. The boat to DTD is just one of my favorite perks of staying at Port Orleans..it is so relaxing, and nice to get away from the busses for a while. The theming of the two resorts it to the tee... POR is more of a rustic, quaint, Louisiana style with gorgeous landscaping around the resort. French Quarter is more of the Mardi Gras party theme with lots of bright pastel colors (that i love!), and the grounds and pool are amazing! FQ does not have a sit down restaurant like POR has Boatwrights...anyone know why they stopped serving breakfast??

No matter what you choose, both of these resorts are amazing, I just prefer FQ for the size and quietness...no matter what time of day it was, it was never loud..it was always relaxing and quiet all around the resort. And I forgot to mention... BEIGNETS are to die for!!! :slurp::slurp:

OH!! OH!!

I FORGOT!!

YEEHAW BOB AT POR!!!

This was one of the great delights, surprises, highlights of our last trip.

After a long day at the parks, we walked through the main building and heard a ruckus in the lounge. We wondered what the heck was going on in there.

We sat down and were welcomed in to one of the best, most fun, funny,
family entertainments I've ever seen at WDW.

YEEHAW BOB JACKSON!

An amazing piano player, comedian, you name it. I haven't ever seen
anyone get a room going like this guy.

We were able to go to the food court, get a pizza, bring it back, the kids had pop, we had beer, and we laughed, sung, and made fun fools out
of ourselves. I think he's an amazing entertainer, and can't say enough
about the family fun we had there that night.

He, alone, makes going to POR worth it. Amazing. :sohappy:

It's French Quater for us! Love the small size, the bus situation is great, the walk on the path, quiet, fun pool, great food court. We went to the Riverside food court to see what the fuss was, and it was gross! Worst tasting meal I've ever had at Disney. We might have caught them at the end of a rush, though. The burgers that my DD and I ordered were pre made. Yep, sitting in a tin food service bin, under heating lights! As were the fries. I couldn't figure it out! I mean, they serve the same patties at FQ. Then I realized, when you order it at FQ, you have to wait for it, because they make it fresh. That's OK by me!
