Riverside really is great. I have stayed there a number of times and love it. The theming is great, and the whole resort feels laid back. The food court is my favorite of all the resorts (make sure you have the "create your own pasta" while you are there...it is amazing!), and the gift shop is nice too. The rooms are spacious and were recently renovated. You will be very satisfied with your choice.

If you are not staying at a value Riverside is the place to stay! I have stayed at many of the hotels and Riverside is the best Mod property out there!!!!

Since you're coming from the canyons of NYC, you will particularly appreciate the open landscaping. It's beautiful.

The mansions area, Magnolia Bend, along the river is very picturesque.

It's my favorite!! Really nice and relaxing! Well located to most of the parks. The pool is really nice and the food court is great too! Great choice! I'm staying there for four nights and saratoga springs for a couple of days afterwards! Great choice! Have fun!!!!!!!!

Riverside is nice but I personally prefer POFQ, Riverside was just a little too spread out for me. But both of the port Orleans resorts are my favorite, hence the name Sassagoula-RVR :)

I've only stayed at Riverside once when French Quarter was down for the renovation about 5 years ago.

I love all the mods, but POR or POFQ are probably my favorites! The plantation mansion section is really stunning. They are much more laid back than the values, but still tons of fun!

Have a magical trip!

You do realize you are starting down a slippery slope however....once you've done Riverside, you will have a difficult time going back to a value!

That's precisely the problem I'm worried about with my upcoming trip. I'm going with three friends, two of which I've gone with in the past and stayed in Riverside. I'm worried that they won't survive the downgrade to Pop... I've stayed in the All-Stars before, and as long as there aren't more than 2 adults in the room, I'm perfectly happy there.
But, they want a cheap(er) trip, so they'll have to accept the consequences. :)
(Of course, one of my friends went on a business trip to Vegas last year, and stayed in the Venetian... After that, I'm not sure even a Moderate Disney hotel would do.) ;)

We did the same thing as you lastyear, We always stay at Pop Century, but wanted to change it up a bit, so we went to POR instead. I loved it. There are big differences though between the two. The grounds at POR are much, much larger. So depending on the building they put you in, you may have to walk much more than at Pop. We went during a very slow week at the world last year, and they must have put us in the furthest room lol. But we had a bus stop right outside our building which was really good when coming back tired at night. I think POR is gorgeous. The rooms are bigger and the beds are bigger, and POR has doublesinks. I fell in love with the rooms. I don't mind the walking at all, I go to the gym almost everyday so walking for me was no big deal, and you go to the parks and all you do is walk anyway. POR and FQ share busses, and the lines coming back to the resort from the parks were always the most crowded at our bus stop. Pop is always great when it comes to the busses. They don't share, and we never had to wait long at all for busses while there. Another thing I loved about POR is the boat to DTD, you can get away from the busses if you want to. Its so nice and relaxing, we took it everytime we went to DTD. It's the little things like that, that a moderate has, and a value doesn't for not much more money at all. You'll love it!

Yeah, I think you're right! My husband and I first booked this years trip to Sports and after spending our engagement and honeymoon at Port Orleans Riverside we decided against it! We'd have to work a little harder, but we knew we wouldn't be disapointed!!
