River Country is officially Closed

any reason for an offical announcement of its closer? Disney never made any hints over the past few years that they even plan on opening it again. I guess they decided to start liquidating everthing or transfering items to other parts of the resort.

Something about how popular TL and BB are. I'll see if I can dig out the email that I got last week.

Any hints? The thing is closed more than its open. My family thought it closed down months ago.

Wow, i thought River Country went bye-bye AGES ago!! YEARS AGO !!

I just assumed it was closed down due to the newer, more exciting water parks Disney opened in recent times. I was looking at a old brochere of River Country not two nights ago saying to myself that it's long gone and for good reason no doubt. I think most families of today are turned on by the flashy "gimmicks" and "thrill potention" of TL and BB then anything else.

Take Main Street for example: They have turned what was a wonderful nod to the olde days to nothing more then a extended Disney Store Mall now. I was surpirsed when last i visited..there was appeal in those old nostalgic shops and attractions.

But apparently nostalgia does'nt make the Company money. which is rediculous as this is DISNEY we are talking about...they ARE nostalgia!! I was dissapointed when i was there and saw that all the Main St shops all sell exactly the same stuff that you could get anywhere onsite, even at your hotel! Where's the novelty in that? I used to enjoy the variety of the old Main Street shops...oh well.

In related news, they just NOW took down the road signs directing guests to River Country.
I was wondering about the signs myself on my last few visits. It always kind of made me wonder if there were plans to reopen it or just use it for private parties.

Well considering it is a cesspool all I can say is: good riddens. I never liked River Country even as a kid I thought it was kinda boring compared to TL. However, I do miss the "cut-off" slides I'd have to admit that they were a lot of fun.

But at least now we could put an offical end to all those "rumors" of RC becoming the offical pool of Fort Wilderness. Once Again: Good Riddens

Well, I sure didn't see this one coming....

Hopefully they do something with it, even if it is destroying it and adding something to Fort Wilderness.

Did that come along with the announcement about 20,000 closing? Or anyword on Mr. Toad? LOL j/k I am sorry that it is not offically closed, I really enjoyed it the day I spent there. But I do agree that TL and BB are great parks.

Disney usually announces a closure only when they are going to replace it with something--I would guess they will demolish it entirely to build something for Fort Wilderness--perhaps they will finally get a themed pool...

While I share your sentiments on treatment of "classic" attractions, the closure of this site is justified. You can find on multiple discussions on this topic that the main problem with this site was health reasons due to "contamination" from the lagoon water. They had tried multiple minor fixes, but the cost of a total rehab would be significant, money better spent on the other water parks.

I just may loose my membership in the Save the Classics and Return EPCOT (SCARE) society, but I think Disney made the correct decision on this one for both guest and financial benefit.

Keep a lookout on Ebay...those lovers of River Country may soon have some souveniers available.

While I wouldn't enjoy swimming in contaminated waters, I will sure miss River Country. Our family really enjoyed going to this water park. I am not even sure when the park was closed, but I don't remember going in the last 20 years.

I am sure that it would be very expensive to fix this problem, and I don't really blame them for closing this attraction. I just liked to hold on to a little hope that it may be back sometime in the distant future. But to be honest, I have never been to either BB or TL. I am usually to dang tired from the other parks to go. I just usually swim at the hotel pool.
