River Country Building Removal/Modification

While perusing a trip report on another Disney Board (it's the same guy who posted the pictures last fall from inside RC that are constantly referenced around here if you really are hell bent on finding the shots yourself--I don't have his permission nor do I think Steve wants traffic directed to a competitor) I found several pictures and commentary about how buildings near the old entrance to River Country have been removed and modified in the area where Pop’s Place used to be. I know there was a thread a couple weeks ago regarding the possible demolition of RC, but I think this is substantially different in nature from that thread, and merits its own topic.

A fence has been put up in that entrance area, and the Pop's Place building, as well as a building that said "1869" have been removed. Other changes have been made to restrooms and a sundries building, so it might be worth finding and reading the TR yourself if you're interested in an in-depth comparison (and it's quite in-depth).

I'm not sure if anyone here knows when these changes were made, exactly, but it's interesting to see that Disney continues to "tinker" (not quite the right word) with River Country despite it being fairly apparent that the park will never re-open. I wonder what, exactly, is the purpose of all this. Possible expansion of Mickey's Backyard BBQ? Just general resort "beautification"? Your guess is as good as mine.

I don't think it is against the rules to post the links to another site: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2449157

And since I'm not registered at that site, I'll do my comment here.

AWESOME! I'm pretty eagar to see what the next post is. My last trip to WDW included a stay at Fort Wilderness, and a CM directed me on the very path you describe when I inquired about running paths. Apparently she hadn't been on it in 10 years or so, since I came to the same "ending" you did where it peters out. Wearing jogging shoes, having no idea there was a boardwalk, and feeling a little lost, I turned around instead of doing some bushwhacking.

That whole area by the lagoon seemed a little weird to me. I saw plenty of people fishing by the lagoon. They acted kinda sketchy when I went by, as if they thought they shouldn't be caught doing what they were doing. Things got weirder as the trail went past the old cabin. I rather like the idea of a smaller cabin on the loops, BTW. But the old cabin being located there all by itself and all shuttered up was a little derelict.

I remember the path snaking into the woods, getting thinner at a rapid rate. At a certain point I could no longer tell which direction to go, as the path petered out; all directions except behind me was a thicket. I never would've guessed a boardwalk was back there! Pity that they didn't maintain or rebuild it, as I really enjoy walking in the woods and these sorts of nature trails.

Great report over there. Interesting to see the changes that have taken place over at River Country, and kinda sad to see that there is nothing left of the swamp trail. :(

I really enjoyed the articles and pictures. I just wish Disney would do something to that area again. Seems like a waste of space at the moment.

Wow, I just read the whole thing! Very interesting...

I still have such wonderful memories of that place... such a shame! :(

I wonder what the clearing and pushing around of the dirt is all about?? like they may add something? i highly doubt it is an addition to the park for a reopening!:ROFLOL: cause that will never happen I know! but it is interesting the things going on over there.

On youtube people are commenting saying that it will re open. I know it obviously will not (Unless you want to slide down a rusty slide into mossy water :hurl: ) but maybe they are doing something else with it, whether hat be putting some more scenery there or whatever...:shrug::)

quite interesting! it brought back good memories of RC :) i wish i had gone there to look around when i was there in march!

one thing i noticed was on one of the last pics from RC was the sun chairs/loungers all set up by a pool, is this pool still in use? just a thought cos of the way things were set up.

wow, interesting thread, but I have more questions that there were answers. My main questions is why is there a section of RC that looks maintained? like what i'm guessing is the front of RC. The lights are on, restrooms lights are on, looks like the grounds are still maintained. I've never been to RC so i'm guessing this part is still visible to people in FW..? I'm moving to Orlando next month and I plan to explore around over there.
