River Country Area

I just got back Sunday, and I went to, and inside, RC. The beach and slide area is completly overgrown with weeds. All of the activity decks and waterslides are all still there. Even the regular pool area is there, and it appears as if someone keeps it somewhat clean. All of the souvenier stands are there and the picnic tables and umbrellas are all still up and clean. The food service counters even still have the menus up. I also noticed while driving around that there are many signs on the property pointing towards RC. Maybe there is still a little hope for this lost piece of WDW magic.

Exactly, how did you get inside?

I crawled up and down the slides in RC when I was there in March. Some of the area is being used by CM's for meeting areas or rest rooms or something. If looks like everything is still there, right down to the life guard stands. The slides are definitely not being maintained, and the water is nasty and stagnant. More than the fear of being caught, I was afraid I'd fall in the nasty water, lol.
Alas, a security guy obviously knew someone was out there, because we saw him before he saw us, we hid, and he searched until he found us. They must still have cameras or intrusion detecting devices. Security guy was actually pretty nice, Just said we couldn't be out there, so he lead us out of RC thru the back, but at night we couldn't see a lot.

I parked the golf cart at the front gate and walked in. I am not kidding. No one said anything to me, but there again no one was around. I really hope they decide to reopen the place.

We drove past (in boats) in January and the place looked overgrown to me. However,I would think that they would keep nature from totally controlling the place. I would have expected them to gut it by now

It is very weird. The grass is mowed, and all of the seasonal flowers are in bloom and very well kept. It is strange. For some reason they will not open it, but they maintain it as if they plan on doing something with it. I heard a while back that RC was going to become the main pool for FW or the pool for a Vacation Club property linked to Wilderness Lodge and FW. Does anyone know what Disney plans to do over there? They are keeping the place relatively clean for some reason.
