A lot of the dangers of smoking weren't as well known when Walt started to smoke and there wasn't a huge outcry against smoking as there is now.

It still amazes me that when Walt passed, he had only Disneyland open...WDW was still going to take another 4+ years before it even opened.

We are very lucky, with as many issues as the Disney company has had, that it has grown the way it has..I think yes, Walt would not be sure about some of the decisions, but if we told him there were 5 (soon to be 6) cities across the globe with 11 (soon to be 12) parks bearing his name, and over 30 hotels...he would be quite shocked and impressed.

If Walt hadn't smoked and had survived, I do believe he would find a way to build his EPCOT city plan and while I do think it would probably be subject to a lot of modifications, I think it could eventually be a success....and past that, the entire "landscape" of the company would be drastically different. I think it would still be a smaller company with a more core focus, instead of the multimedia giant it has become.
RIP Mr. Disney

My parents always bring this up when a conversation turns to Walt. I agree it was idiotic, but smoking was the cool and hip thing back then. No one knew of its harmful effects at all.
Exactly...We were all stupid about it. Such a shame, because so many have been lost to it. :(

Never seen that before. :(

Thanks Walt for letting us have the chance to be a kid again and again.

The picture of World Mickey crying is intense in real life. The quote underneath always gets me....

After reading Disney Wars and being a disgruntled shareholder, I got a whole new respect for the man. He was literally the face of Disney after Walt was gone and the company was adrift. And with that mustache, he looked just like Walt. He did the impossible...twice. He ousted Ron Miller and got Eisner in there when things were bad and then he ousted Eisner once he realized he was making his own kingdom at shareholder's expense. Roy had some real backbone.

Walter Elias Disney.
You passed before i was born.
You were the Grandfather I never had.
You always looked forward.
Your heart was always in the past.
You shaped more lives than you could ever know.
You added such joy to my Sunday nights, even when it was in black and white.
You opened my imagination and took me on adventures.
You lived your life to the fullest, never accepting the accepted.

Never before has such a simple man shaped so much of the world. I still get a shiver when i see him or hear his words. He was truly visionary, driven, and genuine. He seemed to live exponentially.

I often wonder just where "Disney" would be if he only had a few more years. He was always on the cutting edge, never a quick fixer, imagine what HE could do with today's technology.

We miss you Walt. I miss you.

Thank you Walt- you left the world a better place.
