RIP Princess Leia. And now her dear mother, Debbie Reynolds.

Every year we lose many great musicians, artists, and perfermormers, but this year seems so much worse than usual. Is it actually though, or are the wounds just so very fresh?

(It seems worse to me, BTW.)

No, it's worse... perhaps because I've hit that age when childhood/early adulthood idols start to pass on. And many of the deaths were sudden to us, because we didn't know the individual had been sick (Bowie, Rickman, Glenn Frye).

Even though these people aren't family members, they were a part of our lives in the music that gets stuck in our head, the movie scenes replaying on TV and in our mind, the famous quotes from them we might always say from time to time...and for me in my early 40's, a lot of these people were always a part of my years growing up, and now with my first crush gone today...:(

@)!^ 2016. It compares only to 2001 as a year of terrible pain and suffering for nearly every nation in the 21st century, setting in motion events that will define this century. It seems almost morbidly fitting that in such a year of historical definition, we as a civilization would loose such profound and transformative figures like Elli Wiessel, Harper Lee, David Bowe, Prince, and especially the only woman who could ever occupy truthfully the title of America's Princess if not Princess of the World - Carrie Fisher. May she rest in peace and may the force be with her; hopefully keeping her from being strangled by her bra on her journey through the heavens.

Whenever the Star Wars Ep 8 trailer is finally released, I feel like I'm just going to start the mourning process all over. Ditto with the movie premiere.
I still have to see Rogue One. I'll probably just be weepy all movie long.

VIII will be a killer, I don't even want to think about what they will do.
Although I guess the sensible and even respectful thing to do is to just present the role as she played it, with little change, followed by an 'in loving memory' in the end credits. Perhaps inserting a story that explains her upcoming absence in the final episode. You can't very well have her storyline be a cliffhanger for IX, or leave a storyline on the table that you now know will remain unresolved.

She filmed everything she needed for VIII. A friend and I were discussing this last night, and what we think they'll do is use as much deleted footage as they can, but keep her role small, kind of like TFA (apparently Leia has a huge role in VIII, which makes all of this hurt more). Disney also has the power to bring actors back from the dead in movies (looking at you, Rogue One), so I'm hoping that whatever they do, it's tasteful.
I don't think they'll write Leia out of the film completely. She just won't have the story she was meant to have. Maybe Lando or Poe will pick up the pieces of her story (and if that's the case, they should start filming parts of IX pronto, since Billy Dee Williams is approaching 80). However, the sequel trilogy is probably focusing on Kylo Ren's redemption, and I hope that he and Leia are reunited in VIII.

I'm just upset that we have to be having this conversation.

Or do some re-shoots with her character dying, unfortunately. That, of course, would reframe IX. Maybe with Luke dealing with loss of friends and family over the years -- Uncle Owen, Aunt Beru, Biggs, Obi Wan, Anakin, Yoda, Han, Leia. That's a lot of loss just to preserve the Force.

Don't forget Ben 2.0. Plus Rey (I'm still convinced that she's his daughter or niece that he mindwiped and left on Jakku). And his hand.
I'd rather that episodes IV-IX don't become the "Luke cannot catch a break" movies. I care about that character too much for him to have neverending suffering (then again, I'd say the same thing about the Stark siblings in A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones).

But then again, the stakes are high. Would it be any wonder that Luke is wrestling with the dark side of The Force. Obviously, IX ends on a high happy note bringing conclusion to the 9 episode saga.
