Per the Inside the Magic Twitter account, the two are switching roles. Can anyone confirm this? I'm interested to know the rationale for the move. Anything more than Disney's normal occasional arbitrary position-swaps?

I agree - if this rumor is true I would be curious to hear the rationale behind it. Cockerell seems to do well enough at Epcot. And Carter? Well, why not give someone else a chance at HS?

^I think both have done well in their current roles. Carter has shown a real interest in the park from what I understand (I've seen him in the parks on multiple occasions), it's just that I think his hands have been tied on some things.

That may very well be true. I have only seen Cockerell in EPCOT on several occasions, but never Carter in HS. I suppose this makes the rumored switch all the more curious...

So who is responsible for the gutting of the budget for the Citizens of Hollywood?

Not calling shenanigans just slightly leaning towards it. If there is a problem it has to do with investing in the parks with real dollars and not a lack of quality by either VP. IMHO.

Strictly a hunch.

Perhaps it's like the Rasulo/Staggs switch, one (or both) of them could be being groomed for a promotion.

Either would be a much welcomed personality to replace one of the out-of-touch do-nothings in TDO.

This is what I'm thinking. It's a lateral move that gives both of them greater knowledge and experience with the resort.

Dan for President of WDW! I can only hope he is being groomed for further promotion

Indeed, this would seem to make sense for both, and for the future of the resort and Disney Parks in general. On the subject, I have to wonder who's running Animal Kingdom, because it just seems that park is falling behind. There have been additions and updates at all of the other parks, but AK seems to have missed out. Of course, it doesn't seem to have hurt attendance any, as it was the only park last year with an increase in attendance.

Having worked for Disney for a number of years, there is nothing abnormal about this. Disney switches out their theme park VPs every few years, and the majority of them get promoted pretty quickly. The one who has been there the longest, by far, is Phil Holmes at MK. He has been there for quite a long time now and doesn't seem to ever move around. Prior to his entry, though, the MK went through a number of switches in that post, with Greg Emmer (who went on to become the SVP of Operations at Disneyland) and Erin Wallace (now an SVP for Integrations Line of Business for WDP&R globally).

I've heard a lot of good things about Rilous Carter...he's supposedly an exec that really gets it. Furthermore, it's reported that the Fantasmic fiasco was a decision made above him. You can also make the argument that the Studios is the cleanest, best-kept park at the Resort (which, in my experience, is true).

Dan's father, Lee Cockerell, was a bigwig in the 1994 management team (when things started going downhill), and I'd imagine that Dan's mobility through the company can be attributed to his father's clout.

You are "imagining" such or do have actual evidence or are you just repeating talking points?

I think both parks have shown excellent progress under both VP's. The only thing lacking is more capital investment by TWDC. Both parks have done well with small adds done on limited budgets especially Epcot.

I'm still waiting for this to be confirmed beyond a couple anonymous random text messages.
