Riding with.....Glasses.

Bummer!! I´m half way blind and I hadn´t thought about this. I can´t read anything that is more than 5 inches away from me so I guess it´s time to start trying to figure out how I´ll keep my glasses on when at WDW. I have a pretty small nose so my glasses can´t seem to stay in place. I guess I´ll look for one of those straps they put on little kids glasses to keep them from falling off. That should keep them attached to my head (they´ll probably slide down my nose like always but being such a small strap it should be tight enough that they probably won´t fall and be crushed to a thousand pieces...):lookaroun

You have a variety of alternative solutions.

  1. Whack yourself in the face every morning before going to the parks. The swelling will keep the glasses on.
  2. Stuff your nostrils with tissue each morning. (Don't forget to breathe through your mouth)
  3. Glue small pieces of steak to your nose each morning. The added benefit of this option involves dinner at night.
No need to thank me, I'm here to help.

Back when I was in high school marching band I had trouble with my glasses sliding down my nose while performing due to the sweat. Well when you are performing it is not cool to be constantly pushing your glasses up and could even cost you points with the judges. So I got something similar to these

You simply adjust them to hold your glasses snuggly onto your face and you would not have to worry about them coming off at all.

Another vote for just wear your glasses.

I used to wear the "flip up" sun glass clip on's until my son informed me how "uncool" that was and how he didn't want to be seen with me as everyone though I was his grandfather. Now I have transitional lenses and he's fine with it.

I should start wearing my hat backwards and buckle my pants down around the knees and see what he does.

you can even buy some eyewear retainers online (cheaply) here's just one link. For under $10 you can have peace of mind that your eyewear isn't going anywhere.

I know after I've been sweating a bit during the day my glasses start to slide a bit. These retainers are very helpful keeping them in place. Often I'll just keep it in my pocket, it's just string after all, and slide it on when I'm about to hit a ride where I may have some concerns. I prefer the adjustable string ones to the neoprene stretchy ones. Just a bit easier to put on I feel. Notable rides where I wear them all of the mountains, RnRC, ToT, Everest... and that's pretty much it. Truthfully though you don't really need the retainer, but it is nice peace of mind as I say. Nothing would be worse than to lose my glasses and be stuck not seeing for the rest of my day.

I do landscaping and when I am working, the sweat causes my glasses to slide down and move around which is so annoying. My head is always looking around when I'm mowing a lawn or edging so maybe I should just buy these retainers for that purpose too so it won't get on my nerves when its 90 degrees out with my glasses slipping down.

Thanks for all the responses

I'm so glad this thread exists. I am EXTREMELY paranoid that I or someone in my family will lose their glasses or hat. After dozens of trips over the past 23 years, I finally kept my glasses on for ToT for the first time. Piece of cake! Maybe I'll be a little more brave and keep them on during other rides (while holding onto them of course )

I wear the neoprene type you get at sports centers. They go over the legs and are adjustable. So, I can make them tighter for rides and loosen them to walk around. Love them!

I am also blind as a bat if i dont wear my glasses. I wear my glasses on all the rides except for Splash Mt. only because I am afraid that when i hit the big drop that the splash of water is going to knock my glasses off my face. So as soon as I know the drop is coming i take my glasses off and put them in my case and hold them. Also like everyone else said for Rock and Roller Coaster I just hold them when i go through the loops.

For those that have questioned where to find something to keep their glasses on, it really isn't hard. You don't have to get a specific brand, and you can find them at almost any sporting goods store. You also don't have to get anything unsightly or childproof - the options are vast if you're looking for them. I got mine at Eastern Mountain Sports, and they look like a thin decorative string with a tiny rubber circle that fits over both sidepieces and hangs down loosely behind my head until I tighten it when getting onto a ride. If you're the slightest bit concerned, just grab a set of these for 2 bucks.

My husband wears glasses and he just uses the things you can put on sunglasses (the name escapes me right now). Now my daughter will have glasses for this trip and I told her we would get some for her and she informed me that she didn't want to look "uncool" and I said your dad has them and she said "exactly" Out of the mouth of babes.

So, I went to the local Sports Authority to go purchase a hot spot shoe band for my soccer cleats (starting the 2011 soccer season Sunday) and when I was walking towards the registers I noticed these bands that everyone is talking about. They had a few of them that go on the legs of your glasses and ranged from 6-10 dollars a piece.

Until I read this thread, I never gave it a thought. I wear my glasses on every ride and have no problems.

I wish I didn't give it thought but I did and as did my girlfriend. We both knew if I was to lose my glasses my whole trip would be ruined and I would be an aggravated grump for not being able to see:lol:

Contacts if only I could get them in my eyes I tried for literally over an hour with no success. So, I just gave up and just got another pair of glasses theres up and downs for me. Pro : just put them on and off in literally 2 seconds Cons: Being afraid to use them on attractions like states previously, and need to buy special high index lenses with "Crizal" and scratch guard for my landscaping put a nice hole in my pocket

Well I don't ride RnRC or Expedition Everest so can't comment on those, but I do ride ToT, Test Track, Mission Space, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, etc and I never take my glasses off and I have never had an issue with them even remotely seeming like they are going to come off in any way. And these are not cheap sunglasses either. My prescription glasses cost me over $1000 and I don't have any trouble at all with them on any of the rides.

If you are at all concerned about the possibility of them coming off on something like RnRC or Expedition Everest, why not invest in a sports band that you can attach to the arms of the frame behind your ears and tighten behind your head? You see people with them on their sunglasses. This will help keep your glasses on on some of the more 'violent' rides and just make you feel a little more comfortable with your glasses on on the attractions.

Even though I will have two pairs of glasses next year I hope, I will probably still invest in the sports band just for the extra safety incase you never know I guess. Though everyone here seems to not have any problems at all so I'm sure I should be fine next year if I just tighten my glasses in the back so they fit nice and snug. By the way any reason why you dont ride RnRC or EE?
