Rides while pregnant

Can pregnant women ride an rides at WDW? Obviously, big rides (all of the mountain ride, Test Track, etc) are out for safety concerns, mine as well as Disney's.

What I'm wondering about are the really slow rides like TTA, Pooh, or even something Nemo or Living with the Land. These move much slower and more steadily than a car, and I'm not sure what would be unsafe about it. But I also know that Disney may have some sort of CYA type rules that includes all rides.

It won't ruin my trip by any means if I can't ride anything, I just want to know what to expect.

Yes you can. The best thing to do is check with your doctor beforehand as what you can ride depends on how far along you are and how uneventful your pregnancy is. Scroll to the bottom of this page and you will see other threads along this line. You can also do a search and I'm sure more will come up as this is a popular subject. And congratulations!

Thanks! I'll definitely talk to the OB, but it's good to know that after she clears me, what I can expect the rules to be on Disney's end.

My wife went on all the rides when she was pregant 3 y/o and then again last year. The ones she skipped were:
All of the roller coaster/thrill rides including soarin.
She went on but should have skipped Kilamanjaro safaris.
Everything else was fine. It also depends how far along you are. She became pregnant while we were at WDW and went on all the rides without knowing it -- maybe that's why our son is now a rollercoaster/thrill ride lover:D

I was 6 months pregnant and rode a lot of the rides obviously not the mountains or tt or anything like that but did ride Kilimanjaro, Pooh, IASW, thos eare usually fine. I know they say not to ride Safari but it is because it is so bumpy!

You're good for most rides. If it doesn't have a height requirement you're fine. The only thing some people question is the Safari because it's quite bumpy.

My wife and I went last year when she was pregnant (5 months), here is a quick rundown of the ones she did not do:

MK
Splash, BTMRR, SM

EPCOT
TT, MS

DHS
TT, RRC

AK
Dinosaur, C&HPW, EE, KRR
She did Safari because her OB who had been on it said no prob.
They have signs saying pregers should not, we were fine, but if
You are in the back of the truck it gets bumpy, front is not bad.

Pace yourself, walk slow and stay out of the heat.
Have fun.

p.s.

Something to think about, it is not just the motion of the ride, but
what will it feel like if the ride has to eStop (emergency stop) while
you are riding.
Case in point, BTMRR is a smooth ride with no hills, but if it eStops
there will be one heck of a jolt.

All of the rides mentioned above that are fast are a no no. (all 3 mountains, MS, TT, ToT, RNRC, Kali, Kili) I, too, did Kili Safari because I LOVE it but really should not have. It is too bouncy and I was worried the whole time. So, given the opportunity again I wouldn't do it. It's a great ride but not worth the aggravation it cased.

A word of advice when visiting AK. I know it is the hottest place and drank so much water while there but still got dehydrated and needed to sit in first aid for a 1/2 hour in the cool air and drink lots of water. I physically could not walk anymore. I just needed to rest. I felt great afterwards, but word of caution when there.

Go at your own pace. If you are with other who can do the big rides, hang out in cool shops, like I did. (My husband could not believe how many packages I had sent back to our resort that way...hehe) Drink lots of water and rest when you can. My feet were swollen at the end. We were there in August for 9 days and have a 4 year old, too. It was tiring but I had a ball!!!!

Congrats on your pregnancy(& trip to disney:))! I went pg in 2006 when I was 3 1/2 months pg with my DS2. I avoided the same ones as fngoofy's wife but also avoided the teacups in MK. I went on the safari multiple times but just asked for the front row of the jeep. It is much less bumpy there. Enjoy your trip and wishing you a happy, healthy 9 months!

There is still a lot that can be done. Soarin, while it is an "E" ticket is a mild ride. There is a lot in MK, like PoTC, HM, IaSW, TTA, the various dark rides, so you will not have to totally abstain.

Congratulations and Enjoy!

Been there, done that. Can speak from experience. I went several years back and I was just pregnant - 7 weeks. I ended up on bed rest (in the hotel) after just walking around the day after arrival. Dr swears I had to have gone on a ride. Can honestly say I didn't. We went to Chef Mickeys the night we arrived. Walked around while my godson and my mom went on some MK rides. They think that I just overdid the walking and carrying of bags! Started spotting and was told to not even consider getting on a plane at that point. Luckily the trip was 6 days and I stopped spotting in time to get on the plane ride home. Turns out I had more issues and DD was 10.5 weeks early, and is fine today.

But all I can say, is be careful! Don't overdue it! Take time to relax and don't lug too much stuff around!

My doctor told me to go on whatever I felt comfortable with. He knew we went several times a year, and I was familiar with what might bother me, and what definitely wouldn't. Kilimanjaro is a bumpy ride, and I got major evil eye from some nosy woman, but it wasn't a problem for me. I was 7 months pregnant that trip (3 months the trip before - not enough for people to notice), and had no problems whatsoever. The only things I didn't go on were the coasters (RnRC, BTMRR, Space), ToT, and Splash.

I was a very comfortable pregnant woman, and that was my third pregnancy. I had no issues, and there wasn't even a chance of my jarring myself into early labor (all three of my kids required eviction), it was a peaceful and calm trip.

I think the TTA is the perfect "ride". Sit back, prop up your feet, relax, maybe even close your eyes for a little nap and when you come back around to the start of the ride I bet the CM's will just let you go on by.....no better "ride" to nap on than the TTA, Unless the Hall of Presidents is open and then you can get about a 30 minute snooze in! Seriously, all the rides you listed would be fine but always ask your Doc just to be safe.

I don't know from experience (sadly) but I have been told from my friends who have gone and talking a lot with my OB - that you just have to be careful b/c the innocent rides - like Pooh - can actually be harmful b/c of all the jerking and your belly is right there on the bar. I know there are so many stories of nothing harmful happening, but i just wanted to add a different perspective. Have a great trip and congratulations on the pregnancy. :)
