Universal spokesperson confirms 10 people are stuck vertically on the Rip Ride Rockit. It could take 2-3 hours to get them out. Universal is doing what it can to keep guests comfortable.

That sucks. That is a really uncomfortable ride to be stuck on- especially in that position. It's gonna take quite a while for the firefighters to get them down.
I remember getting stuck on the dueling wooden coaster at Busch gardens several years ago. The crew had to bring us water and sunscreen as it was the middle of the day. Every time the other coaster went by our track would shake. Beautiful view but it got old quick. The firemen had to bring us down- we were given sneakers to walk down the side as they didn't want anyone in flip flops. I'm sure those people have good incentives waiting for them.

I think I'd need more than a change of shoes....

Wasn't this an issue that delayed the opening of this ride. I remember the Fire Department not passing the roller coaster because there wasn't a sound plan to rescue riders in this situation. I wonder why its taking so long to rescue with this plan in place.

Didn't you know that the Government shut down created the glitch in the computer systems which caused the lock down. And because of the Shutdown the fire department forgot the equipment to get the passengers down causing a delay in the rescue.

I keep reading rumors that Rock-It might be refitted with trains from a different manufacturer.
I wonder if this will have any impact on that decision.

This ride needs to suffer a similar fate as Busch Gardens Williamsburg's old Drachen Fire.

It's my friend's favorite coaster. I don't know what's wrong with him. It's a fun ride, to be sure, but there's so much wrong with it; this issue with the vertical lift, an extremely rough ride in the back car of the trains, a ludicrous amount of trim brakes, the eyesore effect it had on New York Street, a lot of breakdowns, etc. etc. etc.

I suspect particularly with the issues they had when the ride was first built, Universal wishes they never built the thing (or at least went with Bollinger and Mabillard like they did in Japan).

Interestingly, Universal's official Facebook page posted this update:

We're happy that our guests are safely off Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. We will work to understand what happened and will reopen the ride as soon as we can.

Special thanks to the Orlando Fire Department for their hard work tonight.

Spent seven days at Portofino last year and went into both parks nearly every day. RRR was down for multiple hours each one of those days. It's easy to see why it's so reviled: non-theme, lousy capacity, constant break downs and lack of thrills. This last point surprised me the most.

As coaster coward, I (after watching multiple ride-on videos on youtube) finally plucked up the courage to try RRR last year. Shockingly, it actually bored me. Sure I was regretting every foot of the ascent, but then it was go, stop, go, stop after that. Boredom?!?... and this is coming from a guy who thinks BTMRR should be the apex of coaster thrills.

My husband and I are at Disney right now and went to universal a few days ago. This ride just looks and feels unsafe and terrifying. We rode it once back in 2010 and will never again. You're on your back for the first 15 seconds of it with no shoulder restraints. This is exactly why I don't go on and will never again! Some of those poor people were stuck on their backs. Good move, universal. Glad they're off and safe and also glad it didn't take all night.

When we were in line for the Cabin in the Woods house I saw that they had ladders that went straight up the lift hill. I told Amy that it would suck to get stuck up there. So exactly how do they remove foks at that point? I'm guessing extended fire ladder or lift bucket..
