Riders on Rip Ride Rockit Stuck on Lift Hill

The ride reopened over two hours ago just so everyone is on the same page. The ride did exactly like it was designed to do in a situation like this. ^ The elevator was installed after the State of Florida and OSHA did not approve of Rockits dual chain system. Thats why the lift was put up and then taken down in 2008. Universal had to completely reengineer the lift from scratch right there and did so within two weeks. The dual chain system was removed and the single chain with roll backs was installed. And since the train wouldn't be able to return to the station once engaged by the anti rollbacks they had to also build that massive elevator in order to get guests down from the top which is exactly how its supposed to work. The ride stopped exactly as it was supposed to for safety reasons albeit not the most comfortable setting.

I really wanted to like this coaster. I rode it a lot of times and never really enjoyed it..it was a really rough ride. A great idea for a coaster that just didn't work right I guess. I also always was scared of breaking down on the lift...I can only imagine how creepy it must feel to be stuck on your back that high. Glad everyone made it down safely!

That is terrible news for any park. That ride has had problems in the past and I am wondering if it is time to just take it down and do re-do the area with a new theme/exhibit/ride all together. I hope know one tries to bash the park over this Mishap. No one gotten injured and no one thank God was killed. The ride stopped and got stuck and if that's the worse I consider it a successful day. Like I said this could have happened at any theme park across the country that has coasters. Some coasters work like they should and are reliable and safe when maintained properly and others no matter what are problematic. Uni takes good care of it equipment and feel the park is safe. Just a bummer that this had to go on breaking news.

We need time for things to happen.
I don't usually have any kind of fear on coasters as far as "Oh my god I'm going to die" the only fear I have is about motion sickness and puking, so I can't do too much backwards or any real loops etc. or I'll hurl. I stay away from those rides, If it's borderline my son and daughter will ride first and let me know how they think I'll fair.

I just road this monster last week for the first time, and I don't know what it was, but the whole time I thought I was going to get flung out of this thing to my death. First time I was ever scared like that on a coaster.
I think it's the way your locked in and the way your legs just launch out over the rises and turns.....it's was a very 'different' experience for me.

My son laughed for quite a while about how scared I was riding next to him..I kept saying "holy sh*t, holy sh*t" the whole ride...so he got the picture. ANYWAY when he and my wife saw this on the news this morning, he said...

"Dad would have been crying"

I hate it when he's right.

Me too, the first time I rode RRR I thought I was going to die. They closed that weird half-barrel safety restraint over my lap, and I'm like 'what the .... is this'? Then the train moved, and went up vertically the way it does. Your body ends up tilted even more backwards. Man I was going up screaming and crying, hanging on for dear life! I was sure I was going to slide out backwards and fall to my doom. :hungover:

I do love the ride itself, what a blast! But oh boy, I wish I hadn't seen this thread, brrr...now I'm never going to get over that lift hill... :bored:

Yeah, I'm kind of scared to ride it now. I have no problem with coasters, but when they have mechanical problems like this one, mixed in with a vertical lift, then I get a little nervous to ride.

Plus, it gave me a headache. I don't usually ever get headaches on roller coasters. The only other one I can think of giving me a headache is Gwazi at Busch Gardens.

Random Rip Ride Rockit Ract: (well fact, but darn, I wanted it to aliterate!):

If you are on top of the loop, and you look to your right, you can see Spaceship Earth.

Yeah, Disney has basically the same type of coaster ride, and better themed at that. I wish they'd tear it out and give the Twister building a bit more breathing room for a new future ride (like a real Haunted attraction), IMHO.

Believe it not, Space Mountain is the only "fear of death" coaster I've ever been on. It might be all the rumors Florida kids grow up with about trains going off the track and Disney covering it up and the employee who was decapitated. Every time I ride SM I think the car is going off the tracks. It doesn't feel safe, doesn't sound safe and I always sink down because I can feel those beams whipping past my head, ready to take it off. I've had nightmares about going off its track.

Wow, this thing is a rip riding menace. When we were there for Halloween Horror Nights, we were in the next group, waiting to get on. The coaster came barreling into the station and a woman was literally having an epileptic attack. Her eyes were rolled back in her head and she was shaking uncontrollably, and then she vomited all over the ride vehicle. They called for medics, and when it was all over, 30 minutes later, they then took the ride out of service and started cycling the cars through the track without passengers. We finally gave up and left the line but when I ride it the next day, I have to say that it really felt unsafe to me.

I'm right there with you bud. You've seen my Jurassic Park picture, now imagine I'm 150 feet up in the air and on my back.

I love coasters, I'll ride anything, but I totally felt like I was going to fall out of this one too! Going over the top of the lift hill, I really thought I was about to fall out, that lap restraint didn't feel like any help at all. When we watched the clip of the video at the end of the ride, I had really lurched forward. Super scary.

See, this is what happens when you use the secret codes to select hidden tracks. If you're not careful you'll make it play dubstep.

Is there a more (pardon the pun) universally reviled coaster than RRR?

First time I rode it, I must've gotten the super shaky car. Awful experience. Didn't think I'd ride it ever again.

But I was in the park last week and thought I should give it a second try. As I was getting ready to load, the train that was loaded and ready to launch stopped and the TMs couldn't get it to move, even after having all the riders disengage and re-engage their safety restraints.

So they emptied the train and launched it empty.

Right then I was *really* tempted to bail. I just get a bad vibe from the ride. Like eventually it's going to have a catastrophic breakdown. I realize it most likely never will, but there's just something about it that's completely unnerving.

I agree with @ShookieJones and @The Empress Lilly, the restraints on this ride are the worst thing I've ever seen on a coaster. I'm not an obese guy, but those restraints never feel like they've clicked enough for my peace of mind. I feel like they're going to swing open and fling me across the park.

All of that for a coaster design that is really disappointing?

Yeah, I think I may've retired from RRR.

German engineering at its finest.

Kidding aside, all the sensationalism of this story has been pretty grating. Must've been a historically slow news day.

"We have a train, the Rock-It, stuck in a vertical, vertical position"

Great communication!!!! So glad he made it clear to 911 exactly what was going on.

Flight of Fear at Kings Dominion. I have ridden all kinds of coasters in the US, and even in other countries. That is the one I swore I would never, ever ride again. It threw around and bashed my head so much, I thought i would end up with a snapped neck, or at least a concussion. Truly horrible and not fun in the least.
