I think I heard of this store before, isn't it owned by "Build a Bear Workshop"?

How much does it cost? I guess it would be pretty cool.

It is owned by BBW and there are few others in malls around the country.

Now if they would install a race track so people can race each other after the car is built.:snore:

The original release information stated it would have a track. I hope it does, and I hope someone post more pics soon.

Wow, that's pretty elaborate! I probably wouldn't buy anything but would certainly visit.

I'm really pleased to see shops like this coming to DTD (although I want Virgin back too)

Maybe since this store is now in DTD and the "Build a Dino" store seems to be doing well and the "Build a Bear" in DL seems to do well they will open a Build a Bear in DTD. I'm tired of driving to the Florida Mall to buy bears.

There is one at Myrtle Beach that I have visited and it can be quite costly depending on how you want to accessorize your car. The one I built was over $100. You can also build them without the remote accessories and it's not that expensive.

I'm suprised Disney doesn't have a build a character. The fab five, Villians, princesses, muppets, etc.

I'm so used to Disney projects taking years to complete, so I'm surprised this store is up and running.

Anyone know if the prices are too crazy to be worth it?

You can build them on-line

http://www.ridemakerz.com/RZ/Default.aspx

and price them there.

+/- $30 for a shell + plus R/C and upgrades

It can get pricey, A Dodge Challenger with R/C electronics and battery + $6 upgraded wheels was $67.00

I saw no "real" R/C upgrades - like suspension, motor, trans, etc. Just things like stickers, side pipes, and other "bling"

For my money I would rather go to the local independent hobby shop where the owner is likely to cut you a deal to get you back as a repeat customer.

For someone that wants to go and build a one off car, run it a while, and then stick it in the closet I guess this place is OK. But for any sort of 'serious' R/C I would go to a local hobby shop.

Agreed, but I have some R/C that with upgrades I've spent well over $500 - and if you get into 1/8th off road gas, you're looking at $1000+...

Still, I think this place is way overpriced...

Just walked into the store tonight and I wasn't impressed seeing that it looked like it was thrown into the existing space without much thought for design. The name implies somewhat that it's a "design your own ride" as my friend thought and he was looking for the simulators (seeing the race cars in the store). There isn't any explaination of what the store is either from the outside or once you walk in. Simple signs like "motorize" hung over areas of the store but nothing to read about what was going on. If they would post a sign explaining the process I think it would work better. Everything was also priced separately (wheels, rims, motors, ect.) and I expected it to be more like Build-A-Bear where you'd choose your options and then complete the vehicle. I can see where it would get very expensive to build an RC the way you want it but it's not something typical you'd bring home with you from your vacation.

Just my thoughts.

I'm with Raven, very much a "temporary" store. Honestly felt like one of those Spirit shops that pops up the end of September, then closes the day after Halloween, although arguably with even less theming. To put it in perspective, there are empty CD racks with Virgin Mickey heads still up all over the store.

The weird part to me was the cars scattered throughout the floor. Not race cars or the Batmobile or even a car owned by Jon Voight--just like you'd find at any dealership. People were snapping pictures anyway.

You'd probably see these cars at a car show, but not at your local dealership. The yellow Corvette was actually raced in the 24-hour Le Mans series.

The store is an interesting concept - when we were there last night, there was a long line of people purchasing their own creations.

It looks temporary because it is temporary. That said, for a temporary toy store essentially dedicated to one (yes one) toy, I'd say it's very impressive. But hey, I understand it is thought to be sophisticated to find something to complain about with anything new at DTD. Fortunately I'm not given to uncritical group think.

Not saying you are, but there are some trolls around here. :hurl::lol:
