Ride Sponsorship

I have a question about ride sponsorship. What does it mean when a company sponsors a ride ? Do they pay for the upkeep for the ride ? Or do they just get to put their name in front of the rides name ?

Money Makes The World Go Round...

I'm no expert, so I hope someone with specific knowledge fills us in, but I know the companies shell out a fortune to sponsor attractions. The individual countries in World Showcase also pay & maintain their areas. Apparently, two that are bailing out soon are AT&T for Spaceship Earth and Mobil for Energy. AMEX is no longer the "Official Card" for WDW, Visa has taken over. I can't imagine the money involved in such a venture!

Why would ExxonMobil drop the sponsorship? If they dropped the sponsorship would the service stations on WDW be removed? I have some investigating to do..........

I always wondered why a company would sponsor, besides getting their name on the attractions. It seems Disney would have enough $ on its own to host all attractions.

Right.... just think of it as an ad campaign...the sponsor gets to plaster its name all over the attraction...and maybe showcase and plug its product... al la The GM showroom after you ride test track... and they just pay for the rights to that essentialy.

Whoops! Possibly it's just a rumor which was told to me by someone with inside info. Yea, that's it, let's just call it a rumor.

Some companies use the sponsorship as an tax rite off(a donation if you will), others use the sponsorship to get there products out in to a world market, and others still were given the sponsorship since they are an huge part of the park already(Think coke)

also one rumor that seems to be true is nestle is still thinking of pulling out of the land.

I kinda doubt ExxonMobil would bail out... after all, they just shelled out a few bucks for the new logo to say ExxonMobil.

Ok, let's all chip in and maybe we can get "Horizons - Presented by the fans at wdwmagic.com"... Come on the cars are out there somewhere, all we need is some plaster and paint, it could be a "Habitat for Horizons" campaign...

I think we are finally starting to see companies take notice of how little advertising affects people nowadays. Let's face it. Our generation has grown up being bombarded with ads and we've learned to effectively ignore them or simply enjoy good ones without it affecting how we spend our money.

How many of you have actually changed toothpastes, deoderants, etc. due to an ad? If you're like me you distrust any statistical or comparative information in ads so they are effectively useless in getting me to use a particular product.

How many people get off of Space Mountain and say "Wow, that was great, I'm only using FedEx from now on, prices and service be darned!" Now I'm not saying FedEx isn't good, but people are too savvy to base decisions on something like that.

I can't believe that these companies have done this for as long as they have. Obviously Exxon and Coke get fringe benefits that make it worthwhile (i.e. getting the privaledge of being the only soft drink or gas on property) but many others, such as ATT or AMEX, were really just throwing their money away. I like Test Track, but truth is, it probably convinces no one to buy a GM vehicle.

I also think Disney would be better served developing attractions without having to worry about pleasing/kowtowing to sponsors.

I don't get it....

Why do rides close due to lack of sponsorship?

One would think that WDW could afford to keep it's own attractions operating....why MUST they have sponsors?
