Ride Evacs: Your Stories

Interesting to read everyone's responses. We only make it to WDW twice a year (June, then Christmas), but we're at Disneyland pretty much every other month. We've been evacuated off rides there -- looking at you, Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Broken Attraction -- that I couldn't even give you an estimate. And, the one time we got stuck on Pinocchio, back when my kiddo was much more little, it happened to be right at the leering and swaying Jack in the box, causing a so-far lifelong hatred of that ride. As far as WDW, we once got stuck on Pirates...right at the "Yo Ho Yo Ho" scene. 45 minutes of that song, over and over and over. Eventually the cast members came out in their waders, pushed our boat back to a place where we could get off, and then we were escorted backstage through a grotty staircase and then back around the attraction building. I took pictures.

This is why I don't want to be involved in an evac, but more than that, since I was a kid, I get creeped out thinking of walking past the animatrons. When I was a kid, I used to be scared that we would have to swim to safety from 20,000 L in the same water as the animatronic dragon, or in the water near the Pirate boat. I know it's not the case now, but caused me nightmares.

Got evacuated from Spaceship Earth. We were at the very top. We were on the TTC going through Space Mountain during a hurricane when we noticed the lights were on. I got some video of guests being evacuated onto the catwalks from the very top. We also have some video of the monorail at Epcot being towed backward for repairs. Don't know if they had to be evacuated.

I was on 7DMT when it was brand new. At the very top of the hill just past the mining ⛏ room, the train stopped. I was in the front row of the second car, which made the angle pretty steep. The seat had nothing for head support and it was about 15 minutes before anyone came to get us. The elevator to get the cast members up to us was also broken so they were pretty winded from hurrying up the track. I’m not a small girl, heck, I’m not even a medium girl. It was a real chore to get out of my seat and into a standing position. Once I was standing, I had to get to the walkway. There is a pretty hefty gap between the track and the walkway and I was a little hesitant. I have short legs, in my 60s and wobble pretty easily. I reached out for someone to grab my hand, took a deep breathe and took that leap of faith. Picture going down the stairs.View attachment 262299

How prescient was that woman's t-shirt? 🤔

My brother and I got stuck in a spot on the Matterhorn that usually doesn't trap bobsleds when the ride is in emergency stop. We were waiting to be evaced, but it never happened. they released the brakes and our car continued around the last turn and dip, and we were at the unload platform a few cars back. The CM's were started that we were still in a car. They gave us a return ticket for the Matterhorn, but they said it would be down the rest of the night. My brother talked to the CM, got a few more return tickets and had them write something on them. Basically gave a any ride return ticket.

When I was younger, my dad, sister and I got stuck on Big Thunder. It just came to a screeching halt of a sudden and a few people got slightly banged up, but we were all fine. I was probably about 10 at the time, and walking through the mountain was probably one of the coolest experiences I could have imagined.

A few years later I got stuck on the new Imagination for about 10-20 minutes. They never evac'ed us, but the music just kept going. I still shudder when I hear it. My wife had a similar experience on IASW, between two of the scenes so she was getting the song in two different languages. Needless to say, it's tough getting her back on it!

No evacs for me (yet?) but near the beginning of our trip through the 5th dimension on ToT our car stopped and the lights came on. After a few minutes two workers appeared through a door and casually chatted with us while they took a look at a few things. Someone was asking about the eye picture and one of the guys pointed out where the camera was for it. They also pointed out where the tracks converge for both shafts and were just really nice guys! It was cool, though that room is mostly a lot of mirrors and there isn’t TOO much to see in the light that you can’t in the dark.

Every time I ride HM I quietly chant “evac” during the attic scene though, haha!

Animal Kingdom Safari. I happened to be in the seat directly behind the driver and noticed that a red light kept coming on in the dash panel. Just after leaving the boarding station and before entering the adventure, he pulled over and asked for assistance. They told him to evacuate the vehicle. I must admit, it was pretty exciting when they put the ladder up and I had to climb down. I had no idea it was that far from the ground. We were escorted to the wheelchair entrance and boarded another vehicle.

I’ve been evacuated more times then I’d care to admit from Splash Mountain. I think I could count the number of times I’ve made it all the way back to the load/unload station in a boat on one hand. Evacuated? That’s going to take several hands.

After 45 trips to WDW over 35 years, I can say that I have never been evacuated from any ride that I was on. I've had them occasionally break down temporarily while still in the queue. (once on Pirates in WDW) and three times within 2 hours on the Rat Ride in Disneyland Paris. (never did get to see that after spending at least two hours in line total) I don't count the short stops that I know are just to help someone board safely, those are courtesy stops and I am not apathetic enough to get upset about that.

We were on Winnie the Pooh and got stuck towards the beginning where the shack/house is shaking. First they shut off the music and the house was still shaking. Eventually they shut everything off and we were one of the last people off. Got free fast passes out of it. Side note, I knew of the Mr. toad deed picture, but there is another Mr. toad pic on the floor.

I have been evacuated from rides three times. The first time was when I was like 7 years old on Test Track. The final lap around the building was where it happened and instead of speeding up we started slowing down.. My family found it hilarious. We waited there for a little while before they finally led us off the ride. The second time I was about 13 and evacuated from the Peoplemover right before it entered Space Mountain. And most recently about two months ago (the day before I ran the Disney marathon), I got evacuated from Tower of Terror. Right as the elevator was entering the drop shaft, the elevator stopped and all the lights went on and we sat their for a minute. They told me to watch my step over the track and I still tripped on it.
