Ride break downs

Ride stops are never fun, but as pointed out, those often have nothing to do with the ride itself. I did want to chime in - You got evac'ed from HM? Get stuck in a cool scene?

Perhaps, I should clarify my experience. Last January marked my 42nd visit to WDW over 30 years. Never have I had to be evacuated from a ride. All I've ever experienced were those short little stops that are almost always to help someone either get on or off a ride AND the occasional closed attraction due to maintenance factors (I assume) that wasn't scheduled. I have never had a problem with any of them. I feel that if they are willing to shut down a ride in the middle of the day to fix it, then there must be a very good reason that it should be fixed before anyone else gets on it. I appreciate that! It's not a negative. That would be the very reason that the only roller coasters I have ever been on in my life are at Disney. I trust no other place to maintain them in a safe manner.

Even if I was on a ride that required evacuation I think it would be great. I would get to see the inner workings of it and I love that sort of thing. I also realize that mechanical objects break down. Have any of you ever had a car that never had anything go wrong with it at some point or the other. Now imagine if you ran that car an average of 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year for over 30 or 40 years. That's asking a lot of a piece of metal and plastic. I really can find no reason to be upset about a ride that is down for whatever reason. I can tell you this that they never would have run as long as they have without proper maintenance. There is a major difference between something breaking down due to lack of maintenance and something breaking down in spite of proper maintenance. Some realities cannot be altered, even in a fantasy theme park.

On HM we were barely in the first scene with the portraits.
UoE was twoards the end right before you get to the jeopardy part.
And TT was at seat belt check.

So unfortunately didnt get to see anything cool. The ballroom scene would of been nice to be stuck at to watch and see all the little details. But wasnt that lucky.

For us it's always Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion and Pirates at the end of the ride (the boats jumble up). Last time even the Nemo and Friends ride got stuck! It completely ruins the feel of the attraction esp. when that loudspeaker comes on and says that the ride will continue shortly. No thank you! Hoping when we go back in October we won't have any of the usual "glitches."

I've only been evacuated from a ride once in seven trips, and that was at Universe of Energy just as the main part of the attraction was starting, as some kid had a change of heart and jumped out of the ride vehicle.

Apparently 1000 people were evacuated from the ride, all because of this kid.

That has been happening since day one. It will be there on your next trip just like it has been for the past 40 years...it's part of the animal. Not originally intended but sometimes the laws of movement cannot be overruled by imagineers.

The only thing that happened to us was getting stuck on Ellen's Energy Adventure for only a few minutes, but we had to get out using the emergency exit. It wasn't fun having the Cast Members spoil the ending for us though XD. Oh I forgot that it was shut down because someone climbed out.

Wow that happened to us in our June trip...

I got stuck on Thunder Mountain once, just as we were going up the hill. We got a great view of the park even though it was only 5 minutes!

Instead of being frustrated about a ride or two being down, you should look at the positives of the situation which is that you're at WDW with your family when you could be at home sitting on your couch . . . which is unfortunately what I'm doing now. A lot of people can't even go to WDW, and you've been there for 10 days. Enjoy it man.

Seriously, this is what this forum is for. To let people comment on their Disney experiences. If you can not afford to go to WDW and it is too annoying for you to hear someone talk about it maybe you should not read the forums. Btw, instead of sitting on my couch, I have a second part time job in food service to pay for my Disney trips.

I did get stuck on Pirates for a short time on my last trip. Although when you launch two or more boats with not so much distance between them, being stuck is bound to happen. If I recall, the ride was closed in the morning for some reason. The only ride that actually broke down I can remember was a family trip in '01. My family rode Universe of Energy only for the ride to break down before the dinosaur AA part. Unfortunately, we had a flight to catch so no more rides after that! Still, after riding it for the first time in its entirety last March, needless to say, I still question why my parents chose that ride when Test Track was out there! Still, I've been lucky for the most part!

Our ride vehicle had issues the last time I rode Dinosaur. The tech came out and had us unbuckle and rebuckle our seat belts. Then he had to come back and turn off the car and reboot. Then he came out and turned off the motion to the car and we rode it that way. That was the smoothest ride ever. They took our car off line and put us on another car to ride again. The tech was very apolgetic but it didn't bother me or the other passengers. The CMs work hard and i appreciate them. It was just another Disney adventure.

We had an exceptional number of ride breakdowns on our last trip. It was so bad that I emailed to complain. They used our ticket to trace the problems and they were able to confirm that we experienced an exceptional level of ride problems. I'm sure every situation is different, but it's definitely worth bringing it to their attention.

I would personally document breakdown/evac times and dates and send a letter so they can compare to their own records for credibility on your part. While I am not one to whine and complain (although there are instances where they should automatically make amends...in-room refrigerators) I think it is important that you point this out to TDO if for no other reason than to show them what sort of ROI you received for your very dear vacation dollar. Perhaps you will get recompense...perhaps not but they need this sort of feedback to point out that their current spending on other areas is compromising guest experience on the rides....which is a HUGE reason we all go! Sorry for your bad experience and glad you seemed to make the best of it!

So what was their response once they verified your complaints...just curious.

I always count on Pirates and Mansion to have a pause during the ride, but more than that and I start to get a little fidgety...
