ride blueprints

I'd suggest not buying any blueprints from eBay. The two I bought from there had terrible quality and any writing on it was illlegible.

Thanks for the compliment and posting the link. I was shocked this morning when I got up and found I had 1200 views so far today when I had about 250 yesterday.

Yes the blueprint for sale by that guy on ebay are not so great. The lines are good (for the most part) but the text is illegible (I wonder how many generations of copies his stuff is from the originals). I also think he takes 8 1/2 x 11 drawings and blows them up to a huge scale which would explain the blurriness.

Over the years I've bought most of the ones that interest me and am putting them into CAD. Now I can notate them as much as I want, change the scale, combine information from all sorts of different sources.

If you have any questions, requests for specific drawings, information to share or comments just drop me a line

They are very, very nice. The fact you did some of them on Mylar is just so sweeet!!! Being an architecture student, I have some understanding of the difficulty in creating these drawings, particularly hand drawn ones. If I may ask, did you do it for fun? For practice? Work? What size was the Mylar, and what media did you use?

Truly amazing work. I can only imagine how many hours you put in on them. What CAD program do you use? Oh, and you should most definitely expect to hear from me again, as I'm sure I will have lots more questions for you. I greatly enjoy picking the brains of designers and architects, and I have a great respect and admiration for beautiful drawings and those that created them.

Ok, I guess I'm done kissing up.:animwink:

Mylar? I did do them on mylar and vellum before I graduated and got into an office with CAD. I started the project in 1986 or 87 doing an elevation of main street on mylar at 1/4" scale. (From the cup and saucer past the cinema to the hat shop, it was about 14" high and 5' long before I stopped) I still have a DLP and Epcot resorts on paper so I probably swithched around 1992 or so. I work on vectorworks. It works pretty well for 2d. and it cad do 3d but all the 3d stuff I want to make is crazy. I can't really take software for designing houses and make it do mountains of rockwork and rollercoasters with banked curves. I have a friend who's doing an amazing recreation of Disneyland in blender.

He also has renderings on flickr (links from his blog)
I'm thinking of learning blender but haven't gotten around to it yet

I'm just doing it for fun and I like having a collection that's disney related but not commercial (Now someone from Consumer products is going to read this and start selling millions of them at the parks at outrageous prices like beenie babies or pin collecting) I like that I've developed a hobby that's cummulative. If I got into video games I would have a nice high score but I would have died a million times, and who really cares about high scores? But I just add a bit more each week and now I have an impressive collection.

Wow, that's really something. You've been working on it for over 20 years? Ahh, the dedication of architects.

I haven't had a chance to use vectorworks but know a few architects that swear by it. The Autodesk apps are capable of some odd and weird shapes, but I only get to use them because my school has them, they are too darn expensive otherwise.

And you've inspired me to attempt a similar project using an amusement park I grew up going to. I'll get back to you in about 15 years.

Those blueprints are awesome! Its cool to see how the rides are laid out. I like comparing old versions of the rides to the newer versions. Speaking of which, is there one for the new (and awful) version of Living Seas?

No I haven't done 2 versions of the living seas. I tend to do one version of each building just because there are so many and I don't spend too much time doing attractions that don't interest me that much. I might go through and dot the walls that were removed when they did the Nemo ride portion. I know in general the changes but I haven't been down there since they made the changes.

That would be neat, I look forward to seeing it. The changes they made for the nemo renovation are what really interest me. It seems like they just made the old theater areas and Seabase Hydrolator station into the current line area. I am also curious about how they changed the ride track, or if they changed it.

Cool, thanks Martin!

So it looks like they routed the new ride track through the area where one of the theaters used to be, as well as the original load area and hydrolators. Do I have that about right?

Although it was never my favorite EPCOT Center ride, its still sad to see what they have done. Sure the execution was a little cheesy, but the movie and ride through the tank were sure awesome. I miss it.

Ed those are great blueprints, I look forward to checking them all out.

Martin as always great stuff! How about a request for.....old Indy speedway vs new (94?) Indy speedway layout?

I thank ya! So far as I`m aware, the Speedway only changed in `73 and `87 when the north and south ends shrunk (one by a little, one by a lot) for Space Mountain and then Starland.

Marni, thanks for the layout of the living seas. I didn't realize they expanded the track so much. Also didn't know they shortened the speedway on the south side for space mountain. I swear you know as much about the ride layouts as me

And that's saying a lot

I just saw it last night, very well done! I didn't know that they moved Turtle Talk into the old intro movie theatre.

Maybe I missed it in the video, but why did they shut down the old Sea Cabs in the early 2000's? Was it just a money issue since United Tech. pulled out, or was there a problem?

Two-fold; money and safety. The Seacbas had no doors. This would have cost money to fix, and the ride took 3 CMs plus maintainence to run.

Ed; my pleasure!
