I never took part in it, or the exotic car experience, but I always thought it was cool that it existed. I wonder what they mean by "Transportation Improvements" I can't see them leveling the entire raceway, at least not very easily.
Unless someone else pays to make it go away, Its not going away.

They don't have grandstands and food courts and rest rooms to maintain. I'm no expert but you would think about the only major upkeep is repaving every couple years. And it always seemed to be busy. AND it was an absolute rush ! Expensive but worth the splurge. And trust me Universal the young persons super thrill ride park has nothing that even comes close. It was a really neat, different thing to do for those who didn't want to ride, or were tired of, Space Mountain. So with The King not wanting to leave why would the Mouse turn down steady money ? I agree, very strange. My only guess is to create more parking spaces as they continue to cram more people into the park. Was the racetrack originally parking ? I thought that it was.

So they will tear the track up?
That's dumb...

Or maybe...just maybe...the 5th gate will be WALT DISNEY REDNECK NASCAR EXPERIENCE:
Enjoy the magic of dippin' and spittin', talkin' 'bout moonshine, fishin', bad mouthin' them yankees and Jeff Gordon, always honorin' the unforgetable #3 Dale Earnhardt.
Enjoy some good ole grillin', drinkin', mulletin' just the way Walt dreamed the south was all about.

There was a death last year at a similar experience "The Rusty Wallace Driving Experience" at the Kentucky Speedway in Cincinnati. This may have lead to Disney finally doing away with this altogether.

But yes, definitely will be used for parking...

I've heard about these racing experiences closing more often lately. Dover International Speedway in DE just ended theirs also. Maybe lack of interest in the NASCAR world, combined with the high price they charge.
It has to be more than what you are referring too. Dover International Speedway has problems outside that racing Experience that fans can witness. The Company that owns Dover International Speedway closed down multiple race tracks starting after the 2009 season and sold at least 2 of them. Dover International Speedway did a lot of seat expansions back in the 1990's to the mid 2000's and cost that race track when the down turn of attendance. A lot of race tracks has the same issue as Dover International Speedway has, but not to the same degree.

Disney's race track is a different animal compared to Dover International Motor speedway because Dover actually is being used for racing outside of giving people a driving experience on a race track.

Walt Disney Speedway actually hasn't been used in auto racing outside of racing experiences like Richard Petty Driving Experience for a long time. Walt Disney World Speedway hasn't had a Indy Car or a NASCAR Racing event since 2000. That means Disney limited the potential income of the race track for years. I don't think NASCAR teams has used the raceway for testing for a long time on any level of NASCAR.

JoLogo in 2012 tested there. It has been a Penske hot spot for testing for quite some time. A couple Chevy teams have tested there as recently as '12, also.

Really, yes.

Prior to this the MK still felt rather isolated as you approached the parking lots. Not to mention nothing said magic more than the roar of cars as heard from the TTC. It didn't really blend too well with the welcome BGM.
Marni, you are a voice of sanity (or maybe it's just that your World view coincides with mine. :)
A NASCAR race track as you enter the park like setting of the Magic Kingdom! Really? And to those to say it was fun, I don't doubt it. But to some so are monster truck rallies. Or bungee jumping. Or gator wrestling. They may all have their place, but not at the approach to the Magic Kingdom (or any other Disney theme park). Six Flags, maybe.

Really? it's been there nearly 2 decades and I've never heard anyone claim its location is all wrong. A racetrack alongside a parking lot is hardly comparable to a big hat blocking on set attractions.
The race track has been called a parking nightmare and is why there hasn't been any professional racing at the race track since 2000 that doesn't involve race teams testing there.

One poster typed the following about Walt Disney World Speedway: "The track is literally right next to the Magic Kingdom parking lot. For people who aren't aware, the Magic Kingdom is the world's most visited theme park annually. You have TONS of guests pouring in to park to visit the park and others parking for the race, it created a massive overflow and Disney was forced to shake up parking procedures. Their first idea was to make all guests wanting to visit Magic Kingdom instead park in the Epcot parking lot and take a monorail or bus over, which obviously resulted in a lot of angry guests and created an overflow in the Epcot parking lot. So the next year Disney instead reversed it and made all race fans park in Epcot and take transportation over to the track. It still resulted in a overflow for Epcot's parking lot, made people angry and their transportation system struggled to get people around the resort."

The poster who typed that wasn't even me on that other website. That means Disney actually had a problem with the race track for parking and wasn't able to be used for racing since 2000 as a result. Disney had a location problem with the race track and it is very debatable if that race track should have been built a first place as a result.

Race Tracks are designed by used for racing first, not for guests to get a feel what it is for a professional race car driver to be on a race track.

I was at the '98 WDW Indy 200. It was/is a nice track, and one of the few tri-ovals in the country. I get it isn't, everyones cup of tea, but back in the day it was a cool experience. Part of the problems is that they only have temporary stands for race events which are set up in parking lot space. This also created traffic issues with the park. Probably will never see a race again because it does not have the SAFER barriers that most tracks have now. They also had a driver who got into a bad reck while testing and was paralyzed.

I've heard the cars from the castle stage and Epcot parking. It's horrible
Really? I've spent a good deal of my MK drays the past few trips around the Castle Stage thanks to DWM and CADCT, and not once have I heard a car from the TTC or Tomorrowland. Not even on the MS Train Station which is closer to the TTC and I've been there for parades for years! The loudest attraction I think is TT's outer track. I know you can hear it from outside of UOE, Maybe even from Showcase Plaza, or the part of WS behind TT? I don't remember.
