Review of Summer Nightastic

I can't wait to see MSEP...I grew up with it, so I'm really excited to see it again. We're heading down that way tomorrow. My bags are packed!

I myself like the Spectro Magic music better not to mention how much I love Jiminy Cricket hosting the show. Both those put together make such a warm atmosphere. I loke the fireworks but... tone down on the Cindarella theme for ccying out loud. Wishes has such a better musical score. My worse fear is that Spectro Magic will comeback with an updated remake of the music score with a dumbed down synthesizer version like the electrical parade.

I think the children are what helps make the song so tear enducing. Nothing gets me like little kids. But then, I guess that's just me.
MSEP is a little dated by today's standards but it has a special place for me.. I saw it when I was six. We still have footage of it my dad took back in 1990

Saw the parade and fireworks on Sunday and LOVED them both! We have seen Spectro many times so MSEP was a welcome change. Yes it is a little dated and was having a few technical issues (the turtle that spins around got stuck for a minute and someone had to come out and give it a push, and the second parade did not feature the dwarves mining float that comes after Dopey so I'm assuming it was having problems) but I kind of like that it had that vintage feel. I really liked the Alice and Cinderella sections.

The fireworks were great! It was nice to see perimeter fireworks utilized...but I will say we were standing right in front of the Castle and the sound could have been a little louder...I felt like I had to REALLY listen to hear the Fairy Godmother, etc. speaking.

Overall, I really like the Summer Nightastic changes...as someone that goes to the parks on a fairly regular basis it is nice to see some different offerings. :)

I would agree. This was really evident during Captain Hook's attack. There were so many incredibly loud shells that you could barely hear the music.

Would LOVE to see MSEP again! It's been 26 years since I've seen it and would love to be able to share it with my kids! They know the music well. Any chance on it hanging around past the original August date?

Yes. Current thinking is that it will be in WDW for a year or more. The fireworks will unfortunately be gone in mid August.

That's okay, I'm a Wishes fan. Caught the new fireworks online and while the Pirates segment was exciting, the rest was kind of ho-hum. Awesome about MSEP, though! Thanks!

Saw the parade twice on the 5th once on the 6th and the fireworks on both nights. I loved the parade. Whether MSEP is better or worse than Spectro is a matter of opinion but I for one am simply happy to see something different. I can not remember the last time I was excited to see a Disney parade. I have not seen MSEP in over a decade and my kids have never see it.

The fireworks were incredible. IMHO 3M is simply the best fireworks show ever done at MK but yet again I was simply glad to see something different.

I hope this is a sign of things to come. WDW has what is in essence 3 seasonal overlays right now. If they are successful logic would dictate that we might see more.

Agreed! Though I just saw MSEP in December! I was super excited to see it in California, and I was super excited to see it last weekend as well! It's fantastic to once again be excited about an MK parade instead of going "wait...listen...crap, the parade is starting! We need to get out of here!!!"

We watched MSEP on the 6th and it was nice to see again. However Spectromagic is definitely better, I actually think the music though has something to do with it as Spectro's music seems more high energy.

It was also great to see the fireworks when it was not poring rain because we went to the P&P Party twice and both times it rained almost the whole night :(

:eek::dazzle::brick:

Spectro has a slower rolling beat to it, slower time signature, more natural key! MSEP is fast, upbeat, synthesized, and WHOA!!!

I never thought I would hear someone say that Spectro music has more energy than MSEP!!!

I personally thought the fireworks were ok...Hallowishes (before it was trimmed) it still my favorite show. GF and i decided we would definitely be seeing the parade again this summer, not sure how many times we'll be willing to watch the fireworks though.

Hallowishes is my second favorite. Captain Hook's attack on the castle with the score from POTC puts MMM/Nightastic over the top for me. That score couldn't be better suited for fireworks if they tried. The only change I would have made was to have Captain Jack zip line down from the castle instead of Tink.

the attack on the castle was definitely a spectacular scene, though for me it doesn't make up for the lack of unity i felt the show had...it took fairy god mother and a royal ball, red/blue fight between the faires, pirates attacking the castle, Tink saving the day from Pirates, Red/blue fight again, lots of fireworks in the conclusion...

it also took awhile to get started...(kind of like the July 4th show) and it really wasn't memorable until the pirate attack. I did notice that they've upgraded the smiley mortars to now include round noses instead of just 2 eyes and a mouth. Kudos to that attempt. There were some other shapes I couldn't make out too...

The show made more sense when it was originally played during the P&P party but I still love it.

The only odd thing about the show is that the pirate introduces himself as Captain Hook, then the Drink Up Me Hearties song from PoTC is used. But Hook is not from PoTC.

I guess it is better than having Jack or some other pirate from PoTC attack the castle then be ousted by Tinkerbelle. Now that I think of it more, the sequence works very well. The only thing that is out of place is the song, but I wuld not trade it for anything. Yoda said it already, you can't make it any better than that.
Some songs seem to be made with a fireworks show in mind, and I stumble across one every once and a while.

One more thing... I really dislike MSEP and its music.

they blend both A Pirates Life for Me and that Pirate song from Peter Pan very well together in Boo To You. They actually go from one verse of one of the songs to a verse in the other song and continuously switch back and forth during the pirate sequence of that parade. So I don't think there's any problem with Hook being used with PotC music.

The electricity was rampant on the evening of the 6th when the MSEP parade began at 9pm (and was similar for the 11pm showing).... the crowd was really into it...clapping..cheers...sounds of joy... my overall impression is that MSEP is a BIG HUGE HOMERUN for WDW.... I have fond memories of the MSEP from my youth (saw it 1st time in the late 1970s at WDW)...I believe the slight updating of the tune was excellent with still retaining the tune of the original (wish they would do that at the Tropical Serenade/Enchanted Tiki Room at WDW --- bring us the Disneyland show to Orlando!) so Salutes to the Imagineers that worked on that aspect!

I love Spectro, but add me to the crowd that HOPES MSEP STAYS for a good while beyond the end of summer!!!!

crowds don't lie. The 1st parade is always more crowded than the 2nd, but ever since MSEP started, the 2nd show has been as crowded as Spectro's 1st. And the 1st MSEP is crazy! The crowd loves it, I've talked to many who say it's just far better. It should also be of note that Spectro was designed to be almost an opposite of MSEP, so that people would have a new and completely different experience from MSEP. So it makes sense that you like one or the other.

Parade - I honestly disliked it. I wanted it to end only a minute after it started. I know the music is a classic to some, but it honestly was painful for me to listen to. It felt like tomorrowland on steroids. The parade seemed like an out of date attraction that was brought back for a few days for all of the die hards. The floats had some changing lights, but it was often that you wouldnt seem them change in the stretch of viewing space that you had. All of the performers seemed tired. Overall, you never expect to go backwards in technology from the previous show when at Disney. August 14th can not come soon enough.
My DH hates the musical for MSEP. IMHO, I love it! It reminds me of my childhood so much. He does enjoy the parade itself, but hates the music.

The music for MSEP is my absolute favorite too. I would give anything to see this parade again!

Though the remix of the music is a little odd to my ears. I do prefer the old version. The new version is starting to grow on me...

Good to hear! This was the same impression i got from the first run this past sunday. People were clapping along, laughing at the bug floats from the Alice portion, cheering when they got the Bumble Bee back up and running...everyone was having a great time. One of the funnier things that happened was the little girl that was sitting next to us LOVED the characters and princesses, but HATED the bug floats, and the pirates, and the clown face from Pleasure Island...so she would be happy, smiling and cheering once second, then when one of those floats came around she would scream and cover her eyes!

Anyway...you can't clap to Spectro...and although it seems simple, being able to clap along to music is a big deal when it comes to interaction...
