Can someone please explain to me the system at Restaurant Akershus? We are thinking of eating there this summer, but we are confused about what the one price gets you, and what is extra. I checked on allears.net, and I know the price includes the "Cold Bar," but does it also include the "Prepared to Order Hot from the Kitchen"?

Also, if anyone has any reviews or suggestions (especially for dessert :slurp: ) let me know!

I have eaten there, and it is brilliant.

The price included the cold buffet and as many hot items as you could eat afterwards. I can't remember if any soft drinks were included in the price (as is the case with Boma) or if they were extra. Desserts are not included in the price.

The form is that you first help yourself from the cold bar - meats, cheeses and fish. I think I ate too much from there to be honest as it was all sooooooo good. Then you can order from the hot menu, which is table service not buffet. You can keep ordering and they will keep bringing until you have had enough.

One of the two WS showcase restaurants I haven't tried yet (that and Germany) but that pretty much sold me! What exactly is there to eat?? And what are the desserts? I love all you can eat!!

Germany I can miss - Oompa bands don't do it for me :lol:
Check out Allears net, they should have the current menu.

Well...I'll submit the opposing viewpoint and tell you that it's far less than brilliant!

This USED to be one of our favorite places to eat every time we visited WDW. Since they changed the ordering/service system, it is no longer on our list. Here's why:

It used to be a standard buffet set-up, with a cold section and a hot section where you could sample as much or as little of everything as you liked. For example, if you loved their meatballs and mac-n-cheese (I DID! :slurp: ), you could pile up your plate with as much of those as you wanted and skip the cold side altogether. Same goes for the cold stuff.

Now, there are no hot items on the buffet. Instead, you order them from your server. It is still "all you care to eat", but must be ordered from the server. You can imagine the time spent waiting for food if the server does not come around often. Also, it limits the amount of "sampling" you can do of the unfamiliar "ethnic" items, as you would not want to order 4 or 5 hot entrees at once just to try them, as you could have from the buffet.

It seems a cheap ploy to get people to order fewer hot items and fill up on the "salad bar".

FUNNY STORY: I found it a little embarrassing the first time I went after the change. I went alone and wound up having 6 plates on the table in front of me, because I wanted to have some of each of my old favorites. It was awkward and crowded! People stared as if my family had ditched me with all their plates! :lol:

Here's hoping they go back to the original concept. I miss it!

By the way....GERMANY is now our favorite EPCOT place to eat! The food and entertainment make it a fun place to relax and enjoy a meal.

the neat thing about Norway is that now all three meals each day are princess meals... so it's lots more fun! The food is decent... we usually skip the norway desserts and head to France for the yummies - or just do an elephant ear later in the day from the American Pavillion. either way - I remember soft drinks being included, and the cold buffet was pretty good... just remember for $30 don't be shy about ordering all the hot items you like... :D You're paying for them!

We also love Germany - the buffet is wonderful and the atmosphere is really something out of a story book! :)

Not anymore - now Akershus has the princess breakfast lunch and dinner... :) This starts officially on April 10, 2005... Although they've already offerred this for most of Jan...

Oh and elephant ears are a doughy concoction that is fried and then covered in powdered sugar... don't mock until you try - as they are sooo addicting! :D

Hmmm - all this talk of Akershus becoming a permanent princess meet and greet may put me off re-visiting. One of the things I liked about the place is that it was not packed with kids. I guess that bonus is now gone.

We have a PS for the princess breakfast in May. Has anyone tried it? We were going to do lunch but my DH said the menu didn't appeal to him. I personally wanted to try something different. Oh well, it's actually for my DD anyway. It's going to be a surprise. Can't wait to see her face!! :sohappy:

We were there within the past month and it was not that way then. I am surprised they are doing this as the menu for dinner may not really please the kids. I know they have a kids menu, but for a place that is really about good food, that is weird I think. Don't get me wrong, we have done the Princess breakfast there twice and it is really great, I am just surprised they are doing this round the clock...

They needed to offer something different b/c the two princess breakfasts are sold out every day - so they want to increase those odds... the mixed princesses seem to get a great response - so that's why they are adding the other two meals.. what's odd to me is that as big as Cindy's castle is... you'd think they'd just add two more character Cindy meals - then they could charge more and all three meals a day there would fill up - I mean, it's not like MK couldn't use some more incentives for people to dine in their sit down restaurants... but oh well... as of April, Akershus will be taken over by the princesses...

VERY good! It's a nice alternative to the norm. The meatballs, breads, cheeses and wines are great at the restaurant as well. It's been about 7 years since I've eaten there but then again I am Norwegian myself and eat these foods all the time. :wave:

And as for the Norwegian girls being great entertainment, the Norwegian guys are a sight to see as well. :animwink:
