14 Trips to WDW and staying at a resort and never had an issue and always felt safe. I never really ever thought about it until this post. We never stay outside of the WDW property. When our vacation package is completed we always move to a value resort for a few days to go visit my brother and Uni or Sea World. We come back at night take a bus to DTD, shop some more get a meal and then take the bus back to the resort. So we bypass and not experience any issues like the ones reported.

I have felt pretty relaxed at the Disney resorts. In the resorts, all the other guests just seem so happy, so pleasant, tired or busy doing their own thing, that it seems less likely some thing bad could happen. At the parks, it's different, I am a lot more on guard. there are people who get crabby and need their naps, not talking about the kids, or they just have a sharper look in their eye that could mean trouble...

We are going next year, and have booked the preferred rooms at POP so we should hopefully
be pretty close to the cafeteria. My son will be turning 12 years old a few weeks after our trip, and I was thinking that if we did get room pretty close, and had working magic bands, we could let him go to the cafeteria to refill mugs or get a treat. Maybe he could go to the main building for the arcade or to the gift shop. But after reading this, and thinking more about it, maybe that was pretty naive.

At what age would you let your kids go by themselves for a quick trip to the main building?

It's one of the few places for a vacation that, at 10:30, I feel like I can walk around without thinking about what could go wrong. Maybe I am too naïve but I just don't worry about bad things happening. Walking at PORS and/or WL in the night is so relaxing. It's a great way to wrap things up. Walking down I-Drive doesn't make me feel that unsafe but I don't have the same relaxation either.

I feel pretty safe although I always have to remind myself to be alert as things can happen anywhere. The one time I really didn't feel safe was one November around midnight my sister and I were walking back from dhs to bwi. I just don't like the walkway when your about half way between the two...around where the overpass is and just anyone can walk up from the hess gas station area. It's just to much real life entering the bubble and to many places someone with bad intentions could take advantage.

I think there's a difference between a fight between two knuckleheads and a random, unprovoked attack.

I have developed a strong urban indifference to mostly everything. There were metal detectors in my high school. Two decades ago. I've also traveled throughout Latin America. Alone.

I could never feel unsafe in Disney, but I will tell my 12 y.o. niece to not trust anyone.

I feel very safe inside the Bubble as well, yes I have seen thing fights, drunks etc but I saw people who I believed to be guests same as me jump into action when those things happened.
Only fight I've witnessed was me and Mrs Hatter fighting over the last bite of a Magic Cookie Bar..Or me putting in a longer straw to her Margarita to sook up the last drop..

. Letting negative events dictate and overwhelm our daily lives hold us back and we go nowhere.

It assists in keeping us in touch with reality, it does not allow us become naive. Writing it off and forgetting about dangerous is laughable and how many are hurt.

It is true that tragic events are harsh reminders about the reality that life can be short and there are some senseless people out there who commit acts of violence. But it shouldn't serve a purpose of stopping us from living our lives and/or feeling sorry for ourselves. Yes, it is important to remember the victims of any sort of tragedy and do everything in our power to try and help those who have been hurt. But most of all, we need to learn from tragedies and make improvements to ensure a better chance of not happening again, otherwise, the problems will never be addressed and things will not change when they need to be. The past can hurt, but you can either run from it or learn from it.

Well I never... Speaking to a friend who just came back from Orlando..This was their third visit, always staying on I- Drive. But here's the thing. They again witnessed a fracas in the streets..Every time they go, they see some sort of trouble. The last visits whilst staying at 4* hotels, also had their moments..Police had to be called as a fight broke out one night at the swimming pool. Then on another vacation, a woman grabbed another woman in the hotel restaurant, and started fighting...They have a 10 year old kid and tho love Uni/IOA and WDW, they said their thinking of booking on site at Disney for their next vacation. He asked me how safe do we feel whilst walking around the resorts.?..Well I've never seen any kind of fracas on any resort at Disney...Or in the parks..Well apart from one mother telling her son to behave or it's time for home..So here's my question..Do you feel 100% safe in your magic bubble resort.?..Even whilst having a adult drink at night.I've never seen anyone who looked like they've had wayyyy too much..( Then again I've haven't met @figmentfan423 yet..Only joking ) ....What are your thoughts.?:inlove:...
I love Orlando- from Downtown, to Disney, Uni, and even I drive- they ALL have their merits. But I-drive isn't for the weak-especially at night. I had to explain to my 10-year-old what a prostitute was thanks to I Drive LOL! I think people are less likely to behave like a$$es when their average room at Disney cost 3-4x as much as the 4* on I Drive- just my opinion

i have always and still feel personally safe in disney world and all it's properties.
but i was sadly disappointed last December when someone stole our coach diaper bag right off of our golf cart at Fort Wilderness. we parked the cart, and left the diaper bag in the cart with the strap wrapped around the handlebar twice and were gone for all of about 10 minutes looking at Christmas decorations. When we returned, it was gone. eventually a good Samaritan found it in the bushes and it was returned (while security was working with us doing the report). but i no longer feel my PROPERTY is complete safe in WDW. before this incident, i left my stuff out in the open all over the resorts (at pools, in strollers, etc). now, we watch our stuff like hawks, feel bad, the one bad apple theory i guess. or maybe we were just TOO trusting, not every guest is going to be immune to temptation

I feel ya. My method of looping the pack strap under the chair leg and throwing the invisible cloak that is the pool towel over it really isn't much of a deterrent to the opportunistic thief.

You know what...safety is almost never thought about when I'm in the bubble at a disney resort. As a father of a girl, it surely should be...in fact, I'm feeling terrible now just typing this. But at the resorts, I've never had on moment to think otherwise.

Now, at the airport it's a different story, and I'm slightly guarded at the parks as well. But I always feel safe at the resort.

This is probably one of the top reasons I love wdw. Growing up in a single parent household my mother always felt safe taking us to Disney. That feeling of security is priceless. I can't imagine going and staying off property as an all women group but on property makes us feel very secure. I would go right now and take my son by myself with out my husband. Of course you should always travel safe and smart! But when on property that extra feeling of security makes our vacations that much better!
